Secret menu in the 05's COMAND unit.

The code for the DRIVER DIST menu is still a secret. I talked to my buddy who works for Harman/Becker many times about it and the problem is simple. None of the software engineers who worked on NTG1 COMAND back then work there anymore. Nobody has a clue who would know it or where to find it.
So bottom line is, if none of the engineers leak it, it will never come out to the public.

That car came off production line 5 years ago so i think if the code is still a mystery it will remain a mystery. shame as i take family to europe twice a year and would be nice for them to watch a movie while i drive. i don't get distracted by anything when im driving so would be ok. Are the any other cool features you can do to the stereo/nav unit? I changed it to AMG with 537, but the only difference i saw was the AMG logo when you turn the unit on.

also is it possible to connect ipod to the unit? I have the aux button but at mercedes i was told that i need to buy ipod kit which will cost me around £500 together with fitting. Are there any other options? Dension kit is around 500 as well so no point.

You can use a simple 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm jack to jack cable and plug it into your iPod and connect it to your COMAND by opening your glove compartment and plug it into the socket there (front upper edge). You will not be able to control your iPod this way.
Dealer is correct if you wish to control your iPod via steering wheel buttons you need the iPod integration kit. I retrofitted it to my car and a few other cars. For me it's worth it. I don't like Denison simply for the fact that it is not an OEM option. But if you do that's fine.

I didn't know there was a plug in the glove box, I'm sure I would've seen it. Anyway I'll check it out tomorrow. I don't mind fitting the Denison as long at it is not visible as I like the oem look and if it was like 150-200 but for 500 quid I would rather get the mercedes one.

I want to thank menzer for the attachments. It did work out for me 
i have a W211 2004 E270 CDI with original comand 15/04 that i acceded to Eng mode and hidden menus easily before i (dumbly) upgraded to 30/06 from HERE . I have read many threads world wide saying that downgrade would brick the comand or couldn't be possible to do at all. WRONG!!!! This thread was the last one i read and i just needed the 15/04 to try the damn downgrade (thanks menzer again). I DID the downgrade and every thing went smoothly till the end, one try only and VOILÁ i have Eng mode and hidden menus back again; no more video image stop when car in movement 
; still can play mp3 from up and cdc cases; dvd case "eats" every dvd i stuck in 
no region code ****. hope this can help whoever needs. So: DOWNGRADE CAN BE DONE!

I can get into engineering mode it's just getting the dr dist tab up I can't do. The way it works for me is to press the SERV button, then system, then language, then press Hang up Phone, then diagonal up and left and then the AUDIO button and hold those 3 for about 10 sec and that will take you into engineering mode, but I can't get the Dr Dist tab up any suggestions ?
