805-HP AMG GT63 S E Perf - The Quickest MB Ever
Impressive.
Mercedes says the AMG GT63 S E Performance reaches 60 mph in a supercar-beating 2.7 seconds. The new-generation coupe might be bigger with its extra seats, but it's officially the fastest-accelerating AMG production model of them all.
The gas burner alone accounts for 603 hp, but arguably the more impressive number is the combined 1,047 pound-feet of torque.

Cool straight line stat but weighs over 5200 lbs. I could put a blower on my truck and make a lot of power but it would still suck to drive on fun roads and the track.
The car can have a 1 second 0-60 for all I care, I will still never buy one.

They don't even dare to mention the weight in the article. The whole E Performance caboodle adds over 300 kg. Also, the full 805 hp are also only available for 10 seconds at a time during launch or boost mode. The power drops nearly 200 hp down to the sustained power after that, but it still has to haul all that extra weight. I drove the 4-door GT 63 S and SE back to back at the Nürburgring, and the SE was terrible. The extra weight kills it compared to the standard S. It was slower in the end, because it couldn't keep up in the corners w/o flying off the road. Hugely disappointing. 0-60 is pretty lame. Anything can go fast in a straight line with enough power. So unless you buy this as a drag racer, the numbers are mainly for bragging rights as long as you don't mention the curb weight you have to haul around all the time.

The article states: "A nine-speed dual-clutch transmission routes power through Mercedes-AMG's 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system." ... which I expect is an error and it's really the "now normal" 9G-Tronic multi-clutch planetary transmission (with a single wet/drive clutch, in this case).

Also, a formal media announcement:

... and no, they don't state the weight. <sigh>

This page gives the weight as 5,157-5,291 lbs ... but that's the 2022 "4-door coupe" model, not the newly announced "coupe" model (could the naming be more confusing):

It's relatively easy to figure out the weight. The new GT 63 coupe is quoted by AMG at 4343 lbs. The GT 63 S 4-door is quoted at 4751 lbs and the GT 63 SE at 5247 lbs. AMG has previously said that the P3 Hybrid system adds 500 lbs, which is in line with the quoted weights of the 4-door GT 63, so expect the coupe to come in at about 4839 lbs.

Is there anything great about this variant other than maybe 1/4 mile times and bragging about it’s ‘power’ numbers at C&C?
Let’s hope a true track version is on the cards to replace the GTR and its ilk soon.

Beats me. Other than the 0-60 numbers on paper I don't see the point. I just can't get excited about 0-60 and even the 1/4 mile. Ok, it's 2-3 seconds of fun 0-60, but then it's over and we've reached a point where it's actually become nauseating, so one isn't gonna do it over and over again. 1/4 mile is also over in 10-11 seconds. Gets old quickly, IMHO. I guess if you are into juvenile traffic light drag races, then maybe.

Yeah, and in BC (Canada), if you're charged with (street) racing (e.g., trying to arrive at a place before another vehicle) or stunting (e.g., smokin' tires) your car will likely be impounded for a time and insurance costs will go up considerably. From what I've heard, the costs from those can make doing track days look cheap. Even worse, a (street) racing charge can also lead to a criminal charge which can have serious life-long consequences.

I keep repeating this. "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow". At some point one simply can't use the power a car offers on the public streets and constantly ends up having to hold back. You can take a Miata and wind it out everywhere you go, but with 800+ hp you have to constantly reign yourself in. That's not fun. I just watched a few reviews of the new all-electric Macan and one of the reviews made the same comment. If you don't hold back on these powerful cars you are in the rear of the car ahead sooner than one can say "Oh sh...t!"

As per superswiss' comments, at any speed, you're only seconds of WOT away from "impound speed" (40 kph over speed limit) ... and for that, there's no leeway given (your car is impounded "on the spot).
And that's why I get my jollies via track days! Of course, with these new super heavy-weight AMGs, track days don't look like they'd be much fun and will get even more ridiculously expensive for brake 'n tire supplies.

E-Performance was expected with its weight vs insane 0-60. It's more like an E-Ray to the Zo6 comparison. What Im curious is how that spy shot "R" version or whatever it will be called will perform.
Maybe the "R" might just be a figure bump and bodykit at most? Someone I talked to who has a few more connections said maybe there won't even be a BS version this time around. All rumors, but interesting nonetheless

Yeah, sounds like the same type of thing. As you mention, some of it comes down to enforcement (and in-court interpretation/argument) but it sounds like the laws could be quite similar.

Yup, totally agree with forum member superswiss, these cars (this and previous generation GT) are kind of meant for the track (except now they are not as fun due to the weight), street racing is both dangerous and irresponsible especially here in Toronto with constantly bumper-to-bumper traffic. Street racing is an un-Canadian thing to do dare I say.
Maybe just maybe cruising through canyons but can't really do it responsibly with this much power.
