Gt 55 vs Gt 63 2024

Yeah mainly why I ended up going with a fully loaded, perfectly spec’d 2025 GT55 over a dealer’s used common ordered spec model 2024 GT63.

The GT63 was roughly $15–20K more expensive even after a "2024 incentive" discount, and considering it was a commonly ordered spec with some mileage and a year older, it just didn’t feel worth it for a ~0.5 second difference in speed. It was also pushing the upper end of my budget with the 63.

I’ve already got a tune lined up for the GT55, which should put out as much, if not more, power than a stock GT63, with even more torque. Just waiting to hit the end of the break-in period before I take it in!

Thanks! I absolutely love the car so far, haven’t looked back since getting it.

Honestly, I have no idea why Mercedes even prices the GT63 that much higher or why the GT55 exists as a separate trim. The two are practically identical aside from the horsepower output. A tune for $3–4K gives the GT55 more power than a stock GT63, and suddenly you’ve got the same (if not better) performance for $20-30K less.

In my opinion, Mercedes should’ve just scrapped the GT55 entirely and priced the 63 at the 55’s price point. It’s literally the same car. Unless you have the extra money burning a hole in your pocket, id go 55 all day.

Exactly, you only lose the horsepower not going the GT 63 but if you got the GT 63 you miss out on an otherwise loaded vehicle which can't easily be retrofitted and there is probably huge deprecation as well.

It is the prestige of the number 63 perhaps.

From what I gathered there is really nothing different between the C192 GT 55 and C192 GT 63 unless I overlooked something, perhaps someone can look it up further.

According to mercedes the gt63 has more powerful brakes, larger interior, more cargo space, 108 hp more, 74 lbft more torque. So there are substantial differences. In a German car adding 108 factory hp is very expensive.

And if not equipped right the 53 doesnt get the AMG Dynamics... I think??? What about the ARC? I think there are a few things that need to be optioned out.

To your point adding the hp and warrantying it is key. Dont get me wrong; the 53 is bad *** but how many are just willing to get and tune it? There is no real DME tune anyways. Its just not that easy to replicate and thus why I got the 63 (yes great deal).

Brakes are the same unless CCBS...

Yup, page 6 (thanks Eaton for the ordering guide), ARC is standard on the GT 55.

55 has them, too. Initially the 55 didn't have the Active suspension standard, but now it does. The few things the 63 has standard such as the HUD can be optioned on the 55, so equally configured there's still around a $30k difference and it's purely for the additional power. Brakes are the same on both as well, and both can be optioned with the CCBs. Rear locking LSD etc. is all the same. It would make sense if the 55 vs 63 was like the non-S vs S were in the past, where the S gets dynamic engine mounts, e-diff and such and the non-S doesn't, although more recently even the non-S got the e-diff and Race mode can be optioned on the more recent non-S models where in the past that was another thing exclusive to the S models. Similar for things like the 9-Stage traction control which was exclusive to the GT R and up and the FL C63 S. The pricing of the GT is frankly stupid. For starters both the 55 and 63 are too expensive for what they are. The PRO and the E Performance are both just shy of $200k, same base price actually. That's laughable given that the PRO is nothing like the GT R PRO was. Doesn't even get a more track focused suspension tuning.

They didn't add it to the 63. They removed it for the 55. This is the same M177 engine that has made this kind of power reliably for years. It's not a new engine or unseen power level. This powertrain has been around for years at various power levels in the existing AMG models. Down to the transmission, 4Matic+ and all. Parts bin stuff really.

I see, I figured there’d be a few differences in things like that, still doesn’t justify the 30k+ price hike over the 55 though in my opinion.

And it might be different in the states or wherever you guys are from but in Canada you can get a stage 1 tune on a AMG GT55 for about 3-5k fully installed. Gets you to about 579HP and 664lb-ft.

are you talking about the 4 door GT53? Or the 2 door GT55? I’ve already inquired with a few places and even found renntech tunes on their website for the GT55.

Stage 1 gets you +90HP and +106LB-FT.

That 30K difference is very difficult to justify.

So the detune is merely through the software, ECU and TCU?

not having warranty after applying an aftermarket tune that was mentioned is a good reason to reconsider. That said though, 30K is a good chunk of money that will pay for most repairs over the years as long as the vehicle is reliable. So there is that too.
