GTR release.... why the mystery?
Hello fellow forum members. I have been exchanging emails with my MB dealer regarding the release of the GTRs sitting in Brunswick, GA but it's impossible to get any clear answer as to why and when......Has anyone heard any factual reason why they wouldn't release them yet? Thanks

Don't know if this is relevant but there has been delivered AMG GTRs in the UK. Could there be some safety regulation issues in the US?

can be many reasons. One thing is that if they release 1 by 1, the owners could resell the first cars at high profit to anyone that would bid highest. Cutting the dealers out of selling to normal customers

Read the other GTR postings here.
Most everything has already been discussed in fine detail except why MB won't let their dealers and customers know the reasons why and exactly when the cars will be released.
The 2018 C63, and the other GTC's are also impacted.
If anyone here has access, find out if the NHTSA, DOT, EPA or US Government are holding things up nationwide. The lane tracking feature that is now not available for cars on order just may be the reason if there is a hardware or software malfunction they are working through and need to correct in all of the cars stacking up in the MB VPC centers before they can be released.

MBUSA will NEVER disclose what the delays are, just accept that fact now and you will sleep better at night. In my experience it's probably a combination of a couple of factors. If I had to guess I would say it's software related. If it is software related it will then become an EPA issue as well because depending on what the software changes are it can trigger them having to re-submit to the EPA for approval. Any software changes that can potentially change mpg or carbon emissions will result in them having to have the vehicle re-verified by the EPA....and we all know how quickly the government works lol.
I do not think it has anything to do with the first ones hitting the dealerships being marked up or re-sold. There are several hundred of them already sitting in port so they will all be hitting dealerships within the same 10-12 day period. The only variables will be distance from port, cars closest to the ports will arrive soonest, cars in the geographical center of the US will be the last to arrive.

The first GTC AND GTR deliveries to Baltimore and Brunswick occurred every week starting in April. Nearly 100 Green GTR's are in with the various other colors with black being second most prominent.
As you and I have mentioned more than once, these cars are not for inventory or speculation but are essentially sold. Nevertheless they still remain in the VPC's until the evasive "mid summer" release date along with all of the subsequent orders that continue to come in 2-3 times a week by ship.
It's getting crowded at the VPC's

Definitely won't happen!!
Like Porsche and many other dealers with special high demand cars at settlement you sign an agreement essentially stating that you won't export the car for resale or resell it domestically. If you do you get "black balled" on future sales and they come after you for a chunk of the additional profits.

I heard, from a reasonable source, that the EPA certification is holding it up. I didnt delve further as Im not getting one right away.

Makes sense.
I was doing some reading on the Internet and ran across a very recent article on a change in the formula to recalculate the official highway and city mileage.
IF it turns out to be the reason, that would mean changing every sticker on every car in every VPC AND as JRCART pointed out it is possible that these GTC's and GTR's MAY have to be assessed a "gas guzzler" tax which must also be reflected on the new sticker.
Of course this still doesn't resolve the lane changing issue that cropped up.

I just saw that the MBUSA website has updated to show the 2018 models of the GT with prices. Does this mean we are getting close to having the cars released from port to the dealers?

So.... are these things sitting rotting on a boat or just bleaching out in the Georgia sun?

BLEACHING WITH THE WHITE TRANSPORT PLASTIC COVERING ON THEM.....IN EVERY MERCEDES-BENZ VPC IN THE UNITED STATES!!
Many have been there since the last week of April.
NOBODY KNOWS WHY AND NOBODY KNOWS WHEN THEY WILL BE RELEASED.
The White House desparately needs security like this.

I'm sure the cars are being appropriately cared for.
AMG, in Europe at least, must pre-approved transit methods.
My car was delayed for 6-weeks and "sat around", while the factory and importer agreed revised logistics ..... car still arrived in immaculate condition.

Talked with my salesman today he said the earliest will be sometime in July, but had no real idea.

They just parked them outside and if there's damage to them, say hail storm, they will fix them and not tell the customer anything.

Let's give these GTR guys a break and try to stay positive. Good news is when thumbs up are given they will all be ready to transport.
My car needed a part and that was a delay, so it would seem probable that GTRs are ready once EPA or mileage certification is done.

So finally spoke to my MB AMG sales person yesterday and he showed me a GTR video where it states a JUNE 20th launched date for car.....ALSO he proceeded to show me a release date for all 2018 models which showed the GTR launching on Q3 with a September date noted on the sheet... at this point it sure looks more and more it will be Q3....possibly late Q3. He is just as frustrated as all of us with the lack of clarity from the higher Ups... what's for sure is that my GTR as well as many of yours sit in Brunswick, GA today awaiting its delivery.
Hope this helps...some....

-- Is it EPA related
-- Is it a marketing thing (AMG 50th Anniversary--etc)
-- A clear out the 2017 vehicles thing,
-- A finance thing--preload the 3Q balance sheet.
Also, see if he will tell you the production status code for you car.
Mine's in Brunswick too and there have been NO US deliveries yet.
