New 1/05 Navigation CD Release
I stopped at the Benz dealer and asked for a nav data update. He said there wasn't any from 2002. I persisted and lo and behold his tech guy downloaded a nav data software update into my system. Now I can put in any regional disc and the system computes the mileage and time and route and prints the route list on the screen, to any destination in the US. It's almost as good as the DVD system now, although once you get out of your regional disc area, it will show just the interestates and secondary roads. To get more detail, you would have to load the cd for that region.
So the moral of the story is, if you get the new discs, with an older system, get a software update from your Benz dealer. After a little haggling, he didn't charge me, because I told him that it was needed with the new discs I bought.

Anyone else notice this poblem, or can confirm that new discs don't have the issue?

jimbo1mcm - Do you need the California region disc? If not, maybe I can split that with you.
Thanks.

FYI.......Successfully backed up disks using Alcohol 120% using SafeDisk 2/3 option, also 1/05 disks have "direct routing".

I get a 667 MB disc image from Alcohol 120%, and after I burn a CD-R of it I can mount it on my Mac's Desktop and I can see all the files, but if I put it into my COMAND unit (Euro 2.0; Steve@MBenzNL-supplied), it says the CD is invalid or somesuch. Am wondering if I'm missing an option in Alcohol 120%, or maybe his Pioneer can't read all the "bad" sectors from the copy protection properly, or what ...

The one disk (#7 1/05) I managed to backup, as posted earlier, turned out to be a fluke, I made enough coasters to handle a party of twelve
.... but I've kept experimenting and have had luck with the following:Pioneer DVR-108 with latest update (ver 1.20)
Used CloneCD (latest Version) (could not get Alcohol to work consistently) The newer version amplifies "weak sectors"
Switched from Phillips cds to TDKs This made a BIG difference!
Copy disk at 4X using "game Mode"
Been using the back-up for several days appears to work well.

http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/compute...R_108FW120.zip,
I'm not sure if selecting copy "game disk" in CloneCD is the same as Safedisk 2/3 in Alcohol 120%. I'll try it again this week.
Good Luck!
I for one would buy the (01/2005) California CD for some $$$.

This did not work for the newer 1/05 CD's, however. I finally succeeded using CloneCD using "game protected CD" setting. Set for fast error skip using hardware. Also, I had to enable amplification of weak sectors (not emulate). After making these settings, I made images of all 10 CD's and made copies that worked perfectly in my '03 S500. I found the '05 program much more sensitive to backup copies than the prior year's version. I'm only making these copies to preserve the original disks, and I'm sure glad I did it last year as I ruined the backup copy of CD 9 (my area) by handling it too much.
p.s. I have images of all 10 CD's but am not interested in sharing.

You can download profiles from that site, too, although I didn't do that. Good luck in making your backups.
Citation4444,I've tried your suggestions, but they don't seem to get me to where I need to go. Is it possible the new CloneCD version doesn't work the same way? If it does, could you please post more specific information. Also, the link didn't get me to the guide.
Thanks in advance.

I went to the MB website where they have the nav subscription and they have the 1 cd option but no one knows how to order it. I spoke to the dealer they bounced me around to sales and even navtech. Navtech will not sell anything, you need to go through the dealer.
does Anyone else think this is stupid? Why do I have to buy the whole set when I need one. first off they are charging more than a hundred for a cd that costs less than 15 cents.
Anyway guys if you have found an alternate way of just buying one cd from the dealer or used please reply, thanks. Sunny
