Non MB phone in US cars (nokia)
According to the Nokia US web site, they are about to release the Nokia 6310i.
This is a tri-band GSM phone (so works in Europe, and in USA) - and is a great phone, sync's its phone/calendar to your Outlook over IR, Bluetooth or cable has a Java virtual machine on it etc etc.
Well, this is the phone that they ship as default now in Europe with Mercs, and you dont have to buy a special one from MB.
So, if you didnt buy your MB with a phone, its should be pretty easy to add this phone to your MB.
You need the controller, the appropriate mounting cradle for your car, and the signal booster. The wiring is pre-wired on the US cars.
Cheers

I have a C240 2002. I just bought it a week and a half ago at Herb Chambers in Somerville, Massachusetts. I love the car (my first Mercedes) and would love to have an integrated phone. I hope I can do that with a Nokia. Your providing the part numbers and how I might actually purchase the products will be appreciated.
Thanks,
**** Gleason

I have a Nokia 6090 for my SL55. It is GSM.
It is useless here ( we use PCS and CDMA ).
Today I visited MB's exclusive dealer here with expectation to
replace it with an old Motoroller they have installed at S class.
But I heard as the line and others of SL are different from S series, they can not replace . ( Really the line and others of sl55 are different? )
After reading your site where you mentioned Nokia 51xx and 61xx, I checked which model of Nokia is available here and found
6185 and 5180 are available. Do you think I can replace the
6090 with 5180 or 6185 without hard works?
Thanks in advance.

You definetly cant use the xx80/xx85 phones. I think if you had the mobile option on your car, the wiring loom is same as US cars (and you can install the US TDMA/CDMA phones), but not with the fixed 6090 phone
The dealer would have to change the wiring loom and that is no easy thing, but it is possible ...

The rest is right for the CLK, but wrong for other cars - I will find out the C class mounting plates when I see dealer shortly

Thanks for your email about searching for the part numbers. I wonder if your site at http://www.ibex.co.uk/mbstuff/Adding...ed%20Phone.htm includes any of them?
Thanks,

Our PCS is not GSM compatable and has no SIM .
I did not know the wiring loom of fixed 6090 is different from
that of mobile option. Alas!
Thanks again!
CDMA - coded division multiple access (Verizon, Sprint)
TDMA - time division multiple access (AT&T, Cingular)
and GSM (Voicestream, AT&T and Cingular) which by the way uses 1900 mHz spectrum in US as well as the rest of above mentioned standards so theoretically it is PCS as well. 900 mHz is used by TDMA and CDMA carriers. GSM carriers pretty soon going to start using new frequency - 850 mHz. So frequency (PCS for example) and CDMA (standard) are not related. I am not sure how this works in Korea may be meaning of PCS is different there.

The phone is using a MB coverplate and a hands free kit, which lets you hear your conversation thru a radio station. Also, this phone has voice dial.
