I just got my car and have been reading the forums concerning this Ipod issue. I looked in my glove box and I have a small plug in about the size of a head phone jack. Is this the AUX plug?

I read a lot of threads discussing how the interface looks when you dont have this option, as far as text on the radio screen and speedometer screens...

So my questions are:

1. If you do have the AUX plug, will you see text (names of songs) on your radio?

2. If you do have the AUX plug, will you see text (names of songs) on your spedometer area?

3. Will I be able to control the Ipod from the stereo if its pluged in to the AUX input... unlike the controls Ive read about when you have to rig it with aftermarket equipment.

Thanks in advance.

Assuming you are referring to the MB ipod interface kit, the small plug in the glove compartment is probably where the ipod connector jack would emerge to connect to your ipod. The connector jack would be connected to the ipod interface box (normally installed behind the glove box) and this in turn is connected to the AUX port.

I can't answer for the audio unit that comes with the 2003 models, but at least for 2007 (like mine), if you have a COMAND unit you will see song names on both the radio and the speedometer. If not (i.e. MB Audio 20), you will see song names only on speedometer.

I just bought my car, I dont know if there is a MB IPOD interface kit installed or not. I looked in the glove box and there is one plug on the left wall (the side the radio is on) of the inside of the glove box. It is a small hole, like a headphone jack. I hear mention of an AUX plug in, I am wondering if this is it.

If it is the AUX plug, I was wondering what its interface would look like. I see there is a selection for "AUX" on my stereo. Just wondering if anyone has pluged an ipod directly into the hole im talking about in the glove box and could give some info on the interface to control it.

Thanks for the replies.

I just called Mercedes of San Diego and asked if I could buy the Ipod interface kit, First I was asked if I had a small plug-in hole in my glove box(Yes). Then they searched a bit... then they said It was only available for 2004 SL500 and up.

So I guess there is no factory option for me, but I should still be able to use the AUX plug eh?!

Sorry for so many questions about this subject, the reason Im asking so many is because I dont have an IPOD... so before I go shell out the cash for one I'd like to know how it will all work.. because I wouldnt use it otherwise if I bought it.

Thanks

You could try to search this forum for some info, but I have another link to another site which may give you more info:
http://www.mercedesforum.com/m_12031/tm.htm

Over there it talks about an Aux Input Harness which may help with your 2003 model. Good luck!

Aux input
I have a 2003 SL and I use the aux jack for my ipod. go to Radio Shack and buy a 6 foot connector cable with mini RCA jacks on both ends. I think I paid $5. Plug one into the aux jack and one into the ipod. On the control pad of the radio go to SVC>Aux input. Great sound. A bit low but if you turn up the volume on the ipod then all is good. Cannot see the songs on the command unit or steering wheel. But with a 6 ft cable I leave the ipod in the middle glovebox and can just take it out to look at it

The AUX input jack will work with any headphone device. Walkman, Phone, Camcorder, Laptop, Portable NAV, any MP3 player, ect. You don't need to spend twice as much for half as much from an Ipod.

Beautiful SL, I think that is the best color for that car.
