Radio Muted
My 99 SLK 230 had to be jump started from sitting for several weeks. The radio MUTED displayed.
Is their a button for turning off the radio MUTED!!
I've disconnected the ground from the battery & left the car sit overnight.
Entered the radio code & the radio displayed the saved chanels but no sound. I can hear the thump from the speakers when the radio is powered. The MUTED display returned after turning the radio off & on.
Stock MB Bose radio, cd changer, phone, "phone not enabled"
How can I remove all power to resit the memory in the radio?
Question also listed in SLK 170 thread.

Well I have read the operation guide from front to back, but no mention of a mute button. The only button that might be close is the "*" noted as a function button, has no effect.

I can't believe that there are only two of us out there with this problem?
I just turned on my radio one day and the "muted" showed up on the LCD display. Mine had nothing to do with disconnecting the battery.
After a coupld of days with it displaying that, I now have tried to disconnect the battery but also to no avail. It asks for the code, which I input, and it shows a radio station display for about 1-2 seconds then displays "muted". I believe it has something to do with the MB original StarTac phone that no longer works because it is analog but I don't know how to get the radio to work again. I have removed the phone from the connection but it still displays "muted"
Any info or direction would help,
TIA,

I think there is a mute wire on the connector on the back of the radio but I don't know which one it is. Perhaps someone has a wiring diagram for the '99 with a BOSE,AM/FM,Cassette,trunk-mounted CD changer radio that could show which wire is the "mute" wire?

The car has a BOSE system, as it says BOSE on the speakers behind the seats.
If this helps sort this out or if this rattles anybody's thought process. Thanks in advance !!

If the radio says "Tele-Aid Muted", it must be from a misbehaving Tele-Aid unit as mentioned earlier in this thread. Just get rid of that unit or at least remove the wire to the mute line (if it mutes the radio this way).
For other cases, locate the mute wire (behind the radio or the amplifier) and monitor the signal level. It could be a bad old phone control unit (not the cradle/adapter).
