Help! COMAND center meltdown
Am new to board and just bought a 2005 E500 with stock radio. Everything worked fine until this morning, when the unit would hold the "Mercedes Benz" sign and not proceed further. I turned the car on and off, the power on and off, but the screen stays with "Mercedes Benz." Occasionally it will go to a white screen that reads "NAV not available." None of the other COMAND buttons work either (RAD/SAT/etc).
Any ideas? Is there a way to do a hard reset? Do I have to take it in for diagnostics? This is annoying as I've only had the vehicle for 5 days!
Any assistance is much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
PMMD
If that doesn't work, the good news is, you should be covered under warranty. I wouldn't do anything too exotic, for fear of voiding the warranty.
However, you might try checking your fuse diagram (probably in the tool area of the spare tire well), pulling any fuses related to COMAND or the components attached to it (radio, phone, nav, etc), leaving them out for 30 seconds or so, then putting them back in and re-starting. As you pull the fuses, be sure especially to check the one for COMAND to see that it is good.
Let us know how it works out. And if you overlooked the power switch or just got it out of sequence, you will not be the first to have done it.

However, if the power is off, COMAND will show the MB logo briefly when the car is unlocked, or if a door is opened, then it wil fade. This is normal operation.
Thanks again...am loving the power in the E500...It'll have to do until I jump on an E63
