Don't Upgrade Treo 700p Firmware
Today uploaded new 1.10 firmware for other reasons. I wish I didnt...

No more address sync and no way to downgrade back to 1.8
Any ideas??
if you have yr treo 700 working with 1.8 firmware and command
ONT UPGRADE
The lesson is, if you have phone firmware that works with your Benz, don't upgrade it unless you have first checked with AWS to see if the new firmware is compatible. Cell service providers often make changes in their firmware that does not always provide all of the compatibility or features of older firmware.
You may be able to find the old firmware on some of the cell phone hacker sites such as the Howard Forums (www.howardforums.com), and re-flash. Or beg and plead with a friendlier Verizon tech.
Did the upgrade and have to reset 10-15x a day to check email and surf web.
Called Verizon and literally was told, "Yeahhhhhh, wellllllll, sorry bout that. If you hang tough for another month or so, we will have the 755p out and you can pay for that one"
Not "Totally our fault and we will replace the phone at NO cost"
Not "Free upgrade to any other phone"
Just F'in hang tough!!
Wow, Verizon is just the worst.

And I have repeatedly had the same problem you describe when dealing with them - not just with cell phones, but with my FIOS phone and internet service. The FIOS TV customer service has been somewhat better.
To call it the "worst" I'd have to have data on the others. But Verizon's customer service (contrasted with its coverage) is awful. Their contracts are awful. And their choice of phones is awful (but for their stupid corporate decision, we Verizon exploitees could also have had the iPhone).

Was just hoping that was one of them....say what you will about Verizon, but at least it is compatible with most BT devices...Sprint is always a crap-shoot.
There are many unapproved firmware versions that "work" to one extent or another. Many fail to download phone books, log calls, handle SMS properly. Most will at least do voice communications. In the worst cases, firmware or equipment incompatibility can cause the COMAND unit (or or the HU) to lock up - at least until the car is shut down and the fiber optics bus resets.
The "approved" versions have undergone 90 days of testing, and have been shown to be fully compatible. Some unapproved firmware becomes approved once it completes compatibility testing.
Unfortunately, Sprint firmware has caused many, many users problems with compatibility. The same phone with another service provider's firmware, especially "approved" firmware, may work just fine. But not Sprint; and reading on other forums, the problem isn't limited to Mercedes compatibility.
Verizon has a good deal of compatible firmware; but when they update it, they are not at all careful to maintain previous compatibility with any given car. That's why, once you have good, functional firmware, keep it!! If an update provides services you want, check with AWS to see if the new FW is approved. if it isn't, I'd strongly suggest skipping it - and that's true for any service provider, not just Verizon.

You should be able to determine the firmware version through the phone information menus on the phone itself.
I am not familiar with the Treo, and each service providers' firmware can cause menus to be different - but you instruction booklet should tell you how to access it.
Without knowing the details, I would look for a menu or icon saying something like "tools" or "system" and then "phone info" - or possibly variants. The firmware version will probably follow the abbreviation "FW:"
Most of the problems people experience with "unapproved" firmware is with phone book downloads, SMS, and the like. in the worst case, some conflicts would cause COMAND to lock up until the car was shut down and the COMAND reset itself (I haven't seen that one reported for a year or so, thank goodness). However, you should at least be able to make and receive calls.
Several people have recently reported some success with Sprint firmware (e.g., the initial contributor to this thread, plus another contributor I have corresponded with) - which is good. In the past, Sprint firmware has been a problem for many.
Good luck.
