Do I need BOTH for a complete update on my 04 W220?

Thx
No - the COMAND update only applies to W211 and W219 cars. You need the Navigation Module/Processor Update.

Right, but it was my understanding that you could use the w219 CD to update the W220's as well and get some additional features. Like cell phone signal strength & ETA, features that you wouldn't get from the w220 CD.

Thx

For anyone looking for an even-newer nav DVD for the same models listed in the first post in this string, Navteq has made the disc for 2009 available, as of November 24, 2008.

Someone who has a disk should build an image file from it and share the love!

Come on, if you've bought an MB, you can afford a legal copy of the map update disc. The more owners use copies, the more the original disc would cost. At some point nobody at mbworld can afford to buy an update, and those who can afford it would not care to share a copy. In addition MB would put a few euros to make the data VIN-dependent (which they might not do if owners continue buying legal copies).

If you look at the W204 section, you can see that MB is already on the way to individual DVD-copies, already before "My-Comand" is real.

No I won't go homeless if I buy one, but if you're telling me that there isn't anything wrong with paying $200 for a DVD, that is only half full even, then I must disagree.

Oh and I bought my car used

I'll bet your car wasn't a copy.

The issue isn't whether the DVD is half full. It is whether it contains the information you need in the half you get.

Of course, if you don't like NavTeq's $199 price, you could go to your dealer and pay $285.

BQ6460209 is a 2004 DVD. BQ 6460232 is a 2008 DVD released in late 2007; it has been superseded by BQ6460243, released Nov 24, 2008 as the 2009 DVD.

Going directly from the '04 DVD to either the '08 or '09 will probably require the "catch-up" update, to supply missing update information. If you purchase your new nav DVD from your dealer and it does not work, most will do the catch-up update free.

The processor update CD is only around $15 from the dealer.

Just from reading this thread I learned alot about what I can do with the Nav system on my CLS. I'm still using the 209 DVD, but I was able to get the ETA and phone meter updated from the dealer, I Don't have the 3D view, but I'm hoping that when I update to the new DVD (243) I will be able to get that updated. Thanks for all the info on this thread....very helpful.
