That is correct, you will need an iPod kit that is routed to your cradle to get the audio integration.

I've got an iPhone cradle for sale if anyone is interested.

It fits the iPhone 3G, but not perfectly.

hey t-bone - why are you selling it? Also, I heard that they're working on one for the 3g, but not sure if there's an ETA yet...

I've just kind of gotten over the whole iPhone thing.

I'm thinking about going back to Nokias.

So after I thought I'd go to Nokia's, the iPhone 3G cradle came and I decided to try it out.

I think I have the phone/iPhone/iPod system working the way I want it to now.

I got the adaptor (thank you lkchris) cable that runs from the iPod control module box to the iPhone 3G cradle.

Now when I dock my iPhone into the cradle, the phone syncs with the COMAND system and all phone contacts download nicely. There is still differentiation between what is a mobile contact and what is a work or home contact. The phone charges. I can play the songs that are on my iPhone through the car's audio system. I can also play music that is streamed through programs such as Pandora.

I think it's working just the way I want it to now.

Here's a photo of the iPhone 3G cradle with the adaptor cable connected to it that runs to the iPod module. I've got Pandora running so I can listen to that music through the car's audio system.

The cradle that REALLY fits the 3G is now available.

with pigtail
204 820 39 51 Euro version
204 820 40 51 USA version

There are also version(s) without the pigtail for ipod adapter connection.

I ordered mine from the UK and naturally got the Euro version, but it fits and works perfectly anyway on my USA GL.

Yup, and the Euro one is what I have installed in my car now shown in the picture above. I've had it since February. It works great!

Well, I checked out EPC on these part numbers and

"Euro" version is for phone wiring option code 386

"USA" version is for phone wiring option code 389

My GL clearly has 389, checking its datacard with EPC, but as noted the "386" version works fine.

My previous non-3G cradle is listed as for option 389 and it worked too (except for the poor fit).

chris,

I had my parts guy look up your USA cradle part # and it's not coming up, but the euro part does (which he cannot get).

Another question - I'm looking for a 3G iPhone cradle for use in my E55 which I believe has phone kit wiring. I say believe because it has the phone plug in the center console - but oddly enough code 369 or 389 is not listed on my VIN sheet? Can you advise if I do or do not have it?

Thanks,

-m

Yes, I checked with my dealer a couple weeks ago and neither number was available. BOTH numbers appear when I check EPC online (I have whole-world subscription).

Our E-class had the phone system dealer-retrofitted, so the option code doesn't appear in official datacards. I truly suspect the cradle will work, but haven't tried it since my GL installation has the iPod connector buried within the console cover and I'd have to take that apart to move the cradle to the other car. Previous cradles and phones (V60) transferred between the two cars worked fine. Wife is currently using "puck" and Blackberry in the E and will continue, as it's a work-related phone.

I just want my Iphone 3g to work and charge in my ML

Ive been reading for a week and still dont have a clue! Can anyone tell me if there is an Iphone 3g cradle that will hook up to the port in the armrest of my 2008 ML350 that will charge, download my phonebook and use the functions on my command radio or steering wheel? I would also like for the ipod kit in the glovebox to work as its been, with another ipod that stays permanently in there. Thanks to anybody for their help.

Hi guys, it took me a while to read the whole thread, but I think I got it now, I just need you guys to confirm please.

First of all, I have a 2008 GL450 which has the ipod kit and the cable in the glove box, and I have a iPhone 3GS (same as regular 3G)

So if I order this https://www.comandonline.co.uk/produ...roductid=16264

and this http://www.comandonline.co.uk/produc...cat=252&page=1

Do I need anything els to get my iPhone 3GS to work in my US model GL450?

Dont think so, but even if it were, I think commandonline.co.uk would still be a cheaper option. The cradle, and the cable that goes from the cradle to the iPod intergration kit were about $376 delivered.

Yes you can, you need to order this http://www.comandonline.co.uk/produc...age=1&featured

and this http://www.comandonline.co.uk/produc...cat=252&page=1

the cable goes from the cradle to the ipod control unit thats behind your head unit, it replaced the cable thats going into your glove box, just unplug that cable from the control unit and plug the one in the 2nd link to the control unit and you are set.

Turns out it has nothing to do with you pairing the iphone to the Mercedes's Command "System" > "Service" bluetooth.

In order for the iphone to connect and work:
1. You need to connect to the cradle's bluetooth first. The cradle needs to be connect to the Mercedes' phone port located in the center arm rest without the iphone docking in it. This powers up the cradle and the cradle should start to blink signaling that it is ready to pair up.

2. Once this happens, you need to go to iPhone's Setting > General > Bluetooth (Bluetooth should be set to "On"). You should be able to see "iPhone Cradle" on your list. Click on the "iPhone Cradle" and enter code "62872".

3. Once you successfully pair up, you can dock you iPhone to the iPhone Cradle. You know that if the iPhone is securely docked by confirming if it is charging since the battery symbol to the upper right will change to the battery charging symbol.

4. Go to the "Telephone" tab on the COMMAND screen and you should be able to enter phone numbers to make a phone car. You should also be able to go the your phone book via the "Call List" but give it a minute for it to download your phone book before it is visible on the screen. All of my numbers has a /M, /H, /W, etc. to distinguish if it was a mobile, home, or working number.

Hope this helps those that have the Mercedes S550 (W221). It was confusing to me since I thought you would be able to pair up to the cradle only if it was dock. Wasted 15 minutes doing various combination with it dock before I tried pairing it without it docking.
This is so odd. My S65 (W221) does not show home/mobile etc with my 3G dock. It does if I move my dock to my wife's E500, really annoying!

You can order the cable from your local dealer too. That's what I did. I'll need to find the part number, but I think it was posted in this board somewhere. At least that's where I found the number.

True, but it comes to the same price, and you are already ordering the cradle from them, so why not order both from the same place rather than going to the dealer just for the cable.

All true. I got mine from the dealer because I got the cradle from MBenzNL.

iphone 3g cradle installation instructions

Dear All,

I just picked up my new Vito Sports X today and had ordered the iphone cradle for the integrated phone adaptor on the dashboard.

It seems to slip off a little too easily and Mercedes didn't supply the little white installation instructions as i think they just rested in on the dashboard.

Does anyone have the instructions scanned or know where i can find them online tonight so i can use my iphone tomorrow as i'm going away?

Many thanks

T-Bone,

I have a 2008 G500 and my the dealerships say this is not available (iPhone 3G cradle 204 820 40 51 USA) or don't know what it is. I am in the Washington DC area but since I have been unable to locate a dealer who knows about this item I would perfer to purchase it from one that has knowledge of them. What dealership did you place your order through?
