Ok, I was missing fuse 16 in the trunk (now installed) and fuse 40 in the drivers area. Strange thing about fuse 40 is that it needs a funky fuse holder before I can install it -- I've never seen anything like it before and neither had the two car parts places I took it to (Advance Auto & Autozone). Both said it was a dealer part -- I hope to stop there this week.
Question and a concern, since it's highly likely that these fuses had never been installed in the vehicle, what are the chances that I have a connector but none of the rest of the parts?
I know all this stuff is in the trunk somewhere, but where/what should I be looking for? I'd hate to have gone through all this only to find out that I'm still missing $2k of parts...
Thanks,
dave

Perhaps the car has had a retrofit installation that did not follow the OEM parts placement. You can find the phone retrofit guides (links) from the sticky at the top of the forum, the correct position of the phone control unit would be shown there.

The thing that I like about these 2 units is that they are completely upgradeable via software, so when new phones come out Parrot has work around to make it work, and since they both use the Parrot chip, they can make a software packet to upload to the unit via bluetooth with the NAVTV unit, or BT, iPod cable, or an SD card with the Mobridge

This is really strange. If you did not have the fuse holder parts, it does sound like someone had only installed the front MHI connector parts. But this too would be weird. Have you checked if the MHI connector is attached to a wiring harness connector? If yes, does it look like a harness from the factory.

As for the MHI connector in the console, yes -- it appears to be wired. I didn't pull the connector, but under the console there is a medium sized bundle of wires coming out of the underside of the top tray and then down through a hole in the bottom of the console -- the wires are wrapped in black flex mesh and appear to be very professional/well done job. Not what I'm used to seeing from a third party job. I can pull it apart and post pictures if there is any interest in seeing it.
So,having the MHI contact plate in the center console means absolutely nothing when it comes to having the necessary equipment in the back of the car -- at least, that's the case in the 2006 C-class...

Well, I have a series of posts to the sticky phone topic -- the short answer is that I don't appear to have any of the electronics that should be in the back of the trunk.

I have the same problem! I bought my European W203 C55 with an option of code( 386) MOBILE PRE INSTALLATION (MTUS) . The UHI kit is available inside the car which consists of the control unit in the trunk and UHI cradle in the center console for Nokia 6310i, I checked the fuse #40 and I did not find it just like dasman66 . The Command displays" Insert the phone".. I was just wondering why there is no fuse #40? Anyone has any clue for this? I have tried the UHI cradle for Nokia 6310i in my friend’s CLS and it worked like a charm! How can I get it to work in my car? Thanks

The fuse diagram seems a bit fuzzy but I believe it is fuse number 36 on a 2006 car that provides power for the 386 option code UHI kit (like this since 1.04.2004).
Do you mean you tried the same phone and the same phone adapter on another car and it worked fine? Sounds odd. Does the phone charge the battery when ignition is on?

Your case seems quite different since the car should have option code 386 parts. That is a full Euro phone kit.

I'd check the wiring throughout from the phone control box to the cradle including the cradle connectors.

I have checked all the fuses in the SAM boxes and including fuse # 36 nothing was wrong with them.
