It was actually thursday they announced(at ces show) they are out of the car audio and going back to oem work only. They are buying back all the old inventory and honoring warranty items only for the next 3 yrs.

I heard this just around Christmas but I did not know that they were buying back inventory. Can anyone confirm that? If they were buying back inventory why would Crutchfield be blowing out in-stock units at 5% cost?

anthony remember the pmd100... I think brian went apeturd over it... selling it below dealer cost (alpine)

I highly doubt eclipse is buying back inventory also... as I am sure they want to have a fire sale also

My early info on this was partially correct. The part about the buyback was from a different source who said they were buying back his inventoryand selling it to their warranty group. Maybe it was because he didnt have a lot of inventory.(6units). I now understand that it is just being sold and will be warranted for the next 3yrs and then your on your own.
Its a shame because it is a good unit. I didnt like much else of their line but the 726 was nice. It was the only unit other than Alpine I would even think of installing in a Benz. I personally use the factory head unit but if it died I would replace it with the Alpine now. None of the others in car audio are even close. I kow Pioneer, Kenwood, and JVC all make units that would work but none of them have the appeal that the Alpine does.

none are perfect including the Alpine

the 505 is too plain, and if you remember the cva-1006 how they had icons instead of fugly chicklets for the source selection... they were great 10 years ago, but today... just like everyone else. I looked at the avn as an alternative to the alpine... I did not think it would compete against it when compared to alpines new nav.

the pioneer has a great idea with their home screen and they way the replicate it like todays cell phones... though something is off with the pioneer that I can't really place... I don't know what it is... i will revisit pioneer later this year

Kenwood is to gadgetry... though has worked great for me in the past, It offers way too many BS sub menus after sub menus

the best head unit out there is the S class COMAND... hands down, my favorite

JVC is a good unit, but it is still a JVC...
