Is your antenna connected? I have removed the rubber plug in the back so the phone's antenna would plug right into the cradle's antenna's plug.

Please kindly keep us posted on your progress, I believe you'll be the first one successfully hooking up a GSM phone to MB COMAND in Canada!

I did remove hte rubber connector, etc. and also cleaned the contacts. Still no luck. We are having problems connecting it to the GPS antenna. The problem is that we need a male to male connector (??????)
I really need some help from you guys. How did you guys with the Nokia kit hook up it up? Is there a step by step installation web site or something?

PS: Do i need a linear compensator of some sort? We added the linear compensator for the V60 and we did get signal, but a lot of static and disturbances. Any clue?

Thanks in advance!!

My car is older so I don't have to worry about the teleaid stuff. I use a Hirshcmann GSM flat window antenna which is mounted by the side of the front windshield inside of the car. It is barely noticable. And it works flawlessly. I use a 6310i with the Alpine MobileHub.

My car does not have teleaid too (In Canada it is an option). So how did you hook up the Hirshcmann GSM flat window antenna (as in what did u connect it to?)
Im pretty sure if i follow the install you have done, everything should work fine. Also where did you purchase the antenna?

Thanks a lot for you help.

The Hirschmann is connected to the MobileHub's antenna's input and there is another end from the MobileHub goes to the cradle. The MobileHub works with the Alpine IVA D900 more or less like the Mercedes' Command. I got the antenna from La Jolla Audio in San Diego, CA. It was around $35.00 I think. I bought that because the owner of the place told me he is using the same thing and he is happy with it and highly recommended it because it hiding in the corner of the windshield. If you live near San Diego, I recommend you to check La Jolla Audio out. They are very helpful even if you didn't buy anything from them.

Well, I'm in Toronto, so San diego is out of the question!!
But I found the antenna on the net, and have ordered it. I guess I would only need to connect the antenna end connector with the connector from the cradle??

Thanks

Wow, hard to believe. My flight is delayed and here I am replying and posting. Great thing about bluetooth and laptop!

Anyway, your Nokia cradle has a cable to connect to the antenna's cable, you just screw them together. I believe they are all pretty standard type. Depending on where you put your Nokia's box. Mine is behind the carpeting on the passenger side. You could run the cable from the antenna down and hide it behind the carpeting. Good luck.

I added an antenna to the cradle connection...but still hardly any signal....does it have to be a particular antenna, or can any work...i'm still waiting on my Hirschmann patch antenna. Hope that should do the trick.

Your GSM only phone antenna needs to have a rating to handle, 850/900/1800/1900MHz. That is the bandwidth your phone uses. Actually you don't use 850MHz, but the antenna will be rated for it as a general application anyway. BTW, when you get this hooked up, do you have any friends with a Nokia 6340i availabale for testing. I would really like to be able to install the kit you have but Cingular does not support the 6310i. It's strictly an AT&T phone according to Nokia Customer Service for the USA. ALso would you mind posting the part numbers and any pictures of the parts. Or E-Mail them too me. I want to verify what I have found so far is correct.

Thanks,
Randy

Thanks for the info. I figured that the frequency was the problem. GSM here in North America uses only 1900 MHz (and the antenna clearly stated only 800/1800 and CDMA something, why do I buy in haste?? ) Oh well, the wait continues....

For your questions:

1. A friend of mine has a Nokia 6340i, and I hooked it up the other day, and it does not work. The kit is only compatible with the Nokia 6310i.
2. It is total BS what Nokia USA tell you. You can get an unlocked Nokia 6310i and use it with any GSM carrier. I got mine off ebay for about USD 200.
3. I got the whole kit (except the antenna, but u guys in the US dont need one, since you have teleaid as standard and can just use the antenna for that) from Steve (MBenzNL). He's the man for all you add-ons.

Hope this answers ur questions. If you have any more questions, lemme know, and i'll be glad to help

I also plugged in a 6340 from cingular and it does NOT work. Only charging works otherwise, phone is not recoginized at all. You can use any 6310i with the cingular GSM network. I am doing the same.

Cingular Florida does not work with a 6310i. They say they have to have a 850MHz GSM. The 6310i is only 900/1800/1900 MHz. That's the problem down here so Cingular Says. I verfied the specs with the Nokia website, and it states the same. So no 6310i coverage down here with Cingular.

I am using the stock antenna switch and stock antenna. Reception really sucks. I have full strength out of the cradle and it drops to 1 or 2 bars when in the car. Cuts off many times also while calls are in progress. This is the main reason I stopped using it. If someone can come up with a fix, I would love it. I do know that the stock antenna is probably for cdma and not for GSM 1900 and thats probably the mail reason it's bad reception.

All i needed was the Hirschmann antenna and now I have signal throughout without any disturbance or dropped signals.

Would you please post your part numbers now for the whole system. Cradle, Phone unit in trunk, and Hirschman Antenna. Also now that everything is working right, would you mind trying a Nokia 6340i and see if anything happens. That will be a deal maker for me to purshase the equipment for the car. Thanks in advance!!!!

I tried the Nokia 6340, and it does not work.
I got the kit from Steve, but I could give you the part number of the phone cradle.

I just ordered a Hirchmann 1890 slim that fits on the glass. Sounds like it covers all the frequencies that I need and works fine with GSM. Hope this works. I will let everyone know also.
