Does anyone know which antenna adapter I'll need? The one the Best Buy sold me (using their installer's app) did not fit and I can't seem to find any guidance on the net.

Ok, jbondox, your help was truly most helpful. One last question I hope, just to clarify from your earlier statement. Before I removed the COMAND, I had it set to FM, but I don't believe the instrument cluster was on the AUDIO menu. I can still cycle through the menu options and get to AUDIO, but it just has 3 dashes on the right hand display. The reason I ask is I cannot get the ASWC-1 to work properly, although I'm currently thinking it's on the Pioneer Radio side of things rather than the MB side. I get the proper 7th long green flash that shows I'm connected to the pink wire, but when it goes to the red flashes I get 7 which, unless you have a Kenwood, means it did not detect your radio. That tells me it is not properly detecting the radio and has nothing to do with the Benz, but I wanted to make sure that when you said that about having it on AUDIO before disconnecting, it was to avoid this type of problem. Just thought I'd ask before I go any crazier trying to figure it out than I already have. Thanks!

CAN wires can be also taken off the A/C controller but since you are going to the gateway it is up to you.

Rear camera is a treat to run in that vehicle! bust out the bourbon for that!
What a great thread! I'm now tackling this project of installing a Pioneer AVIC8100NEX in my 2003 E320. Got the camera, NAV antenna, and microphone mounted, with their cables routed, plus the antenna extension from the AGW.

BUT, I'm fearing that I may have buttoned things up too soon. QUESTION: Can I tie in the reverse signal somewhere up front? Or do I need to route my cable to the reverse lamp in back?

Thanks for any additional guidance you can provide!

Sorry, but it needs to go to the back. you can grab it at the light or at the fuse box. I believe gray/yellow in the rear trunk fuse box... test the wire first as I am going off of memory here, 90% sure though of the wire color.

Need assistance in installation preperation

I am about to embark in replacing my Comand/Mobridge combo in my 2005 SL55 with a Pioneer 4100NEX using the NAVTV Opti1 to maintain my existing amp and speakers. A couple questions regarding the installation.

1. Reading the NAVTV Opti1 instructions it refers to connecting the antenna of the new unit to the audio gateway AGW. It states this is located behind the drivers seat in the side panel. Is this what you experienced? Odd that it wouldnt connect up where the Comand is located. Also states you need to pull power from the fusebox behind the passenger seat. Cant you access power from where the Comand was powered?

2. Looking at wiring harnesses it seems I need a CAN Bus adapter am looking at Axxess BXMB1. Is this correct? Are there any other wiring adapters to avoid cutting into the factory harness? I know I need a Metra ASWC1 for steering wheel control. Just want to be sure Im not missing anything.

3. Aside from setting AM radio to mid volume, balance and tone before removing the Comand are there any other preparations? The manual mentions decoding voice recognition??? I dont have a factory phone or anything. Just ignore that??

4. I am going to remove the dvd changer after install. Can I just leave the MOST bus cable loose or does it need to be terminated someway?

5. Here is my parts list. Am I missing anything? Any extras I ought to be thinking about?

Pioneer 4100NEX
NavTV MOST HUR MB-S Opti1
Metra ASWC1 Steering Wheel control
Axxess BXMB1 CAN bus adapter
Metra 40 EU10 antenna adapter
NAVTV SL Dash Plate

Thanks much for any assistance.

Hey Bob, did you manage to get this installed in your SL55? I just went through the same process with my E63, so have some knowledge while it's still in my head.

Radio antenna to the AGW is not entirely true. You actually disconnect the antenna connector from the AGW and connect the cable to it. If yours is the same, there's a 'pink' piece on the connector that you lift up with a small screw driver, then you can press down end to lift up the connecting latch. It took me a while. I didn't realize that and almost yanked the cable out. I'm not sure if you can pull the power from the original connector. I just pull it from the fuse. Either car seat controls will work. They 12v connector to 30 amp fuses.

I ended up tapping into the canbus wires, so don't know about the canbus adapter you are referring to.

Yup, just ignore that. My car came with "voice" command system but it wasn't working already, so I ignored it.

Don't remove the DVD changer as this is part of the MOST system and is needed in order for all the devices to work. I think in order to remove it you'll have to use STAR diagnostics unit to remove it from the MOST network.

Thanks for the reply. And advice on the dvd changer. I have already removed it as I have a Mobridge Mo2Pro installed. My upgrade was to remove that as well. I havnt finalized my decision as I am still trying to get the Mobridge working properly after 18 months. I have an early unit and my last ditch effort is to replace it. If that doesnt work I am going down the Opti route. But while I would like the new UI of a new Pioneer the Mobridge (when its working) gives me 90% of everything.

So if I go this route Ill plan on making an appointment with the dealer first to take the dvd/mobridge out of the loop. And I suppose the nav unit too.

Hi Bob. I have a 2007 SL55 and am following your line of reasoning re: stereo switch out. Has your set-up as described previously worked out fine? When you removed the CD changer, how did you handle closing the fiber optic loop?
Any tips before I dig into my install? Anything you would have done differently?

Thank you

Curious about closing the fiber optic loop as well. Is this necessary if I am not using anything from the car except steering wheel controls? I'm close to buttoning up the center console/install, just need to hook up AWSWC-1 wires to can bus and test everything out. Well, that and mount my speakers, and subwoofer. I'd like to put the H/U and center console all together before moving on to the sub and door speakers.

Also, I didn't know about putting the factory H/U in AM/FM before removal. I assume, but probably shouldn't, that is just for the benefit of using the factory antennae. Do I need t o worry about that if I am using a different antennae ?
