Sirius pricing

What are people paying for Sirius? My dealer (SF Bay Area) quoted me $1,589 (not including installation or any Sirius service!) and on top of that says that they can only do MB approved installation which means putting the "cancer" on the trunk.

That sounds like too much. Someone in another thread was quoted around $800. I haven't checked myself so I'm not sure.

I believe the kit is $679 and I think that includes 14 months of free connect time.

I can't see why it would take a dealer more than 2-3 hours to install it once they had done it once.

I'd say anything over $900 installed is a crime.

BTW, I just called the local Lexus dealer and they want $1,295 to install the factory kit in a new LS-430.

Of course it's XM Radio and not Sirius. I'd never install Sirius in my car because it appears to be slanted to the younger set whereas XM Radio seems more suited to mature audiences.

I had XM installed $700. It's in the ashtray of my S500. BTW, you can get a very small antenna, a micro antenna from Blitzsafe. Mine is mounted on the back of the roof, painted bodycolor and barely even noticable.

I paid a $1000 to get sirius in a CLK plus I had to pay $147 for a year. That's more than I pay to get all the channels on Direct TV.

Anything over 679 goes to the dealer. 679 includes 14 mos of service. Dont pay more than 200 for install. I've been quoted 150.

By the way, there is a way to install it with a aftermarket T antenna in the rain sensor box.. I have not tried it yet, will keep posted. My 150 install price included the antenna.

Autobahn Motors in Belmont, CA quoted me "at least $1500" for the installation. What a ripoff!

Anyone in the Bay Area get a better quote on the parts/installtion?

I've got XM broadcasting on an unused FM frequency, installed for $400 including the receiver (also in my ashtray).

The antenna is inside the car, on the parcel shelf on the driver's side. I get a rare fade out which is more than an acceptable trade off for the invisibile nature of the install. If I put the antenna in the center of the parcel shelf, the fade would probably reduce (fade comes when the signal can't be picked up through the C-pillar).

If you would like it done in the "stealth" fashion for around $1000 in the Bay Area, please send me an e-mail.

XM w/ Delphi in G500

I didn't like Sirius plus I can switch the SkiFi unit between the 2 MBs, house and the Sea Ray.

Not seemless, not integrated w/ the COMAND, but still an option.

Can't really address "I didn't like Sirius" but you can certainly get units from Clarion, Kenwood, etc. which work like the Delphi unit (and are not made by GM either). Then again, the Mercedes Sirius unit is made by Delphi...

and... I don't like XM.

The antennas are made by WISI, the same company which supplies the GPS antennas to Mercedes (for instance, on the 203 sedan, the one which is under the rear glass).
