W220 - Watch DVD's from COMAND simply by installing a chip?
I was told by a friend that he knows a place that does custom cars, especially on Mercedes. Apparantly, he's able to make the COMAND play DVD's from simply installing a chip into the hardware. He claims the picture isn't perfect like a tv, but you'll still be happy with the results.
(I figure if this is true I could always update the COMAND's monitor)
Does anyone know anything about this or know if it's possible?

FIrst of all, I don't believe there is any chip like that. Second, the monior cannot be changed. If you have the older smaller screen and want the newer wide screen comand, you cannot change it out. It's been tried already.

No, not change the COMAND to the 03+ COMAND, but to upgrade the monitor to a better quality one. I'll look into more information on the chip, but how else would I be able to watch DVD's from the navigation screen? Anyone know?

I don't have a Command in my car. But I have Alpine IVA D900 installed and I can watch DVD while driving. Well, of course I am not the one watching, I keep my eyes on the road. Also have a Nokia 6310i kit works with it and pretty much like the Command.

..........if you have a 2000 S500, it means you have a MY 2000 Comand 2.5....most likey you will be unable to watch TV or DVD on your Comand......this is gospel. You can spend as much money as you want on chips and trinklets. If you want to watch TV or DVD, you will need a Comand 2.5 from 2001 S500 or younger. Then you will need an MB Tv tuner and your car needs to be programmed to enable TV. You can contact Steve on this forum who is excellent but essentially unavailable or you can contact NAV-TV.com who will charge you twice what steve will charge but they are available.

Thanks for the info, Ted. I was actually thinking about trading my '00 in for an '01 S500 Sport so maybe once that goes through I can get back to figuring this out......

We've installed a TV Tuner in a MY 2000 W220 S-class COMAND 2.5, without changing the COMAND. It even already had TV-in-motion enabled. Very strange.
Not sure of the build date but I think it was pretty early.

I really would like to know why so many are interested in the TV option; watching while you park? For your passenger? For somebody in the back? Sounds like the best thing to have for the rear of a sedan as it certainly makes little sense for the driver, at least while driving. Then a rear monitor would make more sense.
Not trying to be critical, I am just curious...
Re. the picture quality; I was watching TV in the Maybach on the rear monitors and it was pretty bad. Somewhat like a $50 portable TV while the DVD was outstanding both in picture and sound...
