something must be wrong with my mail server, or spam filter

I'll pull together the five or six emails sent over the past three weeks, and resend as a string, hopefully I'll get a response if I change the subject or something that won't setup spam filters?

Do you have AOL? If So, check your spam mail also. You can change the email to not spam, then your future emails will come thru.

UHI Kits

Can I get an idea of the make & model of phones members are seeking UHI kits for? And secondly, are there any phone/UHI combinations that I should not even consider?

The reason I ask, is I have to make a decision that will determine which phone my wife will use and carry (making most use while not connected to an UHI.) The last phone I picked for her was the SE T39M she uses now, but it turns out it's buttons are almost too small and the keyboard backlighting is not very bright. I use a Palm TREO phone/PDA and don't drive the car while working, so for me phone interface is not mandatory.

If you visit phone boards, all you hear are people who are extremely happy with a particular phone, you never hear the bad reviews. I thought I'd probably get more unbiased opinions here, since we're all looking for seamless interface of our phones with our MBZ via an UHI and not trying to convince everyone that our particular phone is the best thing since sliced bread.

How about for W215? It already has V60 cradle. Is it just like a plug and play to change to other phone's cradle?

I do not believe that MBZ has yet released the UHI cradle to fit the Ericsson P900.

I'm patiently waiting myself for the UHI cradle to fit the Ericsson K700i which is supposed to be available in less than six months. But I haven't even seen a projection on the P900 UHI cradle.

I don't believe there will be a cradle for the p900. Not enough demand.

Exclamation reviving the thread, since I'm noticing tons of UHI questions...

Siemens S55/C55/M55/S56/C56/M56
Siemens CX55/CX66
Motorola V620/V600/V525/V300

That's all! Please do not ask for others. Also note that if you are a Cingular or AT&T customer, recommended phones are SE T616/T637, the Siemens phones ending with "6", and the Nokia 6200 and 6230b. Many of these are currently available at subsidized prices direct from the provider, so getting a phone at a good price should not be a problem
(which was an issue with the Nokia 6310i kits).
Dean,
by any chance, has the list of phones grown any bit ?
I'm leaning toward a Sony Erickson (SE) if I go with CINGULAR service.
Read the other thread regarding quad-band phones, and wondering if any of the SE's support that ??? Any recommendations on best SE phone, taking into consideration compatibility with MB PSE ? and technology/reliability of SE phones ? Would I need a Euro UHI kit ? and is that any different from regular UHI kits ?

Tech Specs:
- TeleAid buttons, but NO TeleAid subscription
- Euro COMAND
- 2003 CL203
- Parktronic & IMS

Thanks !!

Carlos

SE does not support quadband but you probably won't need that if you plan to stay in the USA. Motorola is Quad so far as far as I know. The list is the same so far except the Siemens s65 phone cradle. Still waiting on dean to test a S66 phone on that cradle from Cingular.

These are the only phones for which MBenzNL currently sells UHI kits:

- SonyEricsson T610, T616, T630, T637
- Nokia 6220, 6230 (not 6230B)
- Nokia 6100, 6610, 7250i
- Nokia 6210, 6310i
- Motorola V60i
- Siemens S55/C55/M55
- Siemens S45/M45/C45/M50/MT50
- Siemens S65/CX65

The SE K700i is on its way. We're going to test the Siemens S66 soon. The S55/C55/M55 are not that interesting anymore because the AT&T versions aren't available anymore.

John,
do you know what each of the SE phones offers / differs ?

T610, T616, T630, T637

I just don't want to buy one that will be obselete within a month.
I guess I'm leaning towards the T637, but not really knowing anything about it, just assuming it's better than the other 3.
Does anyone of these work any better or worse with UHI kit ?

Carlos

I use the T637 with great success. There various functional and cosmetic differences... the T630/T637 look way better in my opinion. The T637 also has the desired bands for most of the USA (800/1900) and the 1900 band for occasional use outside of the USA. The T63x also has much improved RF performance over nearly every Ericsson phone before it.

It also works reasonably well (integration, performance, level of bugs) with UHI. With the T637 and Bay Area hilly terrain, I rarely have reception problems.

You can check out phonescoop.com to compare the various T6xx phones.

The T637 is my current recommended phone for USA residents using UHI. (For Europeans, my current recommendation is the Nokia 6230 or 6610.)

It looks like SCORCHIE beat me to the answers. I was looking through my notes from my last email with him and I had the 637 written down as the best choice. I did not really look too much at the other models as I just wanted the best for UHI, and was taking his advice on the 637. Hopefully I will get UHI on the next MBenzNL midwest trip.

I'm pretty sure that's the way I'll go then.

As far as installation goes, you may wish to look at the install bulletins for your car on Paul's website at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/ and see what you think of it. Although this is for the Motorola kit and some things will change (such as installation of the UHI clip, or the PSE being differently sized, and the omission of the compensator), it gives you an idea of the component locations and how difficult it is to get to them (easy on R230 actually, plus the center armrest is pretty easy to work with as well with no exposed wiring).

Does that include the UHI PSE kit and cradle?

Nothing MB related (sorry)
The USD 850 was an approx. price given by Scorchie. The actual price depends on the car and whether or not the kit will be a custom install, or if it can be shipped as a complete self installation kit.

Self installation kits for a W203 come including PSE, all wiring / parts needed and including cradle. The actual phone is NOT included.

greetingz,

BigSis
