Location of stock Amp for W203

I couldn't find the information from the search and I remember it was on this forum a while back. Where do I find the stock amplifier? Also, am I correct in my understanding that from the head unit to the amplifier, currently the feed is optical and from the amplifier to the speakers is wire? What is the gauge of this wire (is it worth keeping?)?

Thanks in advance.....

What kind of W203? Sedan? With Bose? If yes to all, then the amplifier is behind the right side trunk liner panel, and it is connected to the head unit in a fibre optic loop and the copper wires go from the amplifier to the speakers.

The wires are not measured as "gauge" (the car uses metric system). The wires vary depending on which speaker, but they are 0.75, 1.0 and 1.5mm (that is usually area).

Thank you Mr. scorchie. Would you use the stock speaker wire to run an aftermarket system with say 50W/ch clean high end amplifier? Also, I am assuming when you say "right side trunk liner panel" you mean passenger side of trunk over the wheel well??

Well, speaker wire size isn't affected by "watts", it is affected by current (amps). The watts are determined by the amps and the speaker impedence, so without knowing exactly what you're doing, it's not going to be an applicable answer.

Are you changing the speakers? Are you just changing the amplifier? What about the fibre optic leads to the current amplifier? You need to outline more of what you're doing before you get some solid recommendations.

Also you have not answered if this is a Bose system or not.

And by right side trunk panel, I do not mean passenger side, as the passenger side depends on whether this is a right-hand drive or left-hand drive car.

I have the Bose in a C32 Sedan (NorthAmerican Left Drive). I am going to change everything, including head unit. I was thinking to save time on wiring, to leave the stock speaker wires in and connect the new amps to them. I am planning on running necessary cables from the head unit to the trunk to bypass the fibre optic system (which I cannot use anyways).

Any helpful hints and tips would be appreciated.

Since you will be running wires from the head unit to the amp(s), you may as well run speaker wires too. If you didn't, the stock speaker wires are made for a much lower current set up (Bose speakers are lower impedence and handle less wattage than you intend to run), and probably would not perform as you would like. Not to mention, you would have to cut all the connectors off to use them. It's a shame to destroy an expensive part like that if you don't have to.

Since the whole car will be apart, it seems like a minimal amount of time would be saved. The only additional part you would have to take off would be the kick panels... the B-pillar covers should already be off to run the wiring.

Thanks, that was my intention. I checked into install rates for most of this and it was less than I would have thought.

Ive installed my system completely now but my stock amplifier is still hooked up. I havent taken the time to disconnect it. Im wondering if ill run into any problems, I would assume not considering im using my head unit to power the internal speakers. ATM im getting WAY to much treble and with my memory wire problem its a real pain in the @ss resetting my cd player everytime i start my car.
