You need the power harness and the fibre optic harness. If you order them from the dealership, they should be able to get you the proper wiring harnesses.

Also, the DVD reader is fitted into the trunk on brackets. The brackets may already be in your car depending on which options you have. You may also need a trunk liner.

If you haven't bought any parts, Steve (steve@mbenznl.com) can provide you all parts necessary, and installation as well.

HI MBDoctor,
For the optic wires shown near the rear seat, there is 3 optic wire, one is not connected to anything. Is this wire supposed to connect to something? Could this wire is for the nav drive?
Thanks,

dude - this ONLY applies to NA spec cars...be aware of the fact that there are a few W211s out there (more then 300) with a non NA spec setup.
Looking at the thread starters screenname - it sais UK which PROBABLY means that he is in the UK and if so - his car might not be prewired for the nav drive.
He is lucky that he wanted to upgrade from an APS50 as of march 2003 all ROW cars equiped with the standard audio 20 do not even come with an AGW anymore and thus the comand retrofit is a lot more complex then connecting a nav drive that - according to you - is prewired.

Please get your facts straight when posting on a public forum that gets traffic from outside the US as well...it will make my email replying life a bit easier - thanks.

greetingz,

2003 E55 Techtite over Blue Leather.
Quoc007: Look further down in your fiber optic compartment. If there is one loose fiber optic cable in there then there is difinitely a second. Those 2 unused fiber optic cables (one male without the coupler attached as shown in your picture and one with the black, square coupler attached) are definitely from the opposite end of the fiber optic connector in your trunk compartment. Once you plug in the DVD drive, you'll have to undo one of the fiber optic couplers and swap one from there with one from the previously un-connected pair, etc. The fact that you have those un-connected fiber optic cables in your wiring compartment proves that your car was pre-wired for Nav. If you have that square shaped aluminum bracket in your trunk, that's even more proof.

So I have a 2005 E55 (wow I love this car) that did not come with a Navigation unit. Anyway, I have purchased the Control Unit and want to begin putting it into the car. It seems that the folks here have a good understanding around what I need to be successful at this. I can see that the mounting bracket is already installed in the car. I am hoping that some of you experts can explain to me what is prewired for a 2005 E Class and what I will need outside of the Control Unit. I would like to know this before I start taking my car apart to install the Navigation.

Can someone help explain what I need.

Any help would be great!

JB

If the 05 E55 is similiar than the standard W211, the fiber connectors are actually in the trunk so you don't have to dig into the fiber compartment by the passenger seat. I've taken some pictures of my install here.

Question Trunk Liner

Just got done connecting up everything for the Nav unit. Unit is working fine and all I need is the trunk liner and the bracket. I took the part number listed above to the dealer and asked for the part.

He instead said the right part number is 211-690-65-53-9F08. Does that sound right to people that are more familiar with this.

Thanks,
