Help with Fuse Box Wiring/V1 Install

This is my first time doing something like this... I'm trying to wire my Valentine 1 to my fuse box. From my research, I saw that I have to wire it to (supposedly empty) Fuse 7 in the fuse box in the trunk. My question is how do I do that? Do I have to buy a 2.5amp fuse and then a "fuse tap"? I honestly don't even know how the fuse tap works... But, I take it that it just attaches to the fuse and I connect one of the wires to it. Also, where do I attach the ground wire?

Thanks!

Most people wire it to the #7 fuse socket in the trunk and route the wire thru the sidewalls and doorsills. I think #7 is switched. You can also tap into the cigarette lighter outlet, which is also switched. You connect the ground wire to any screw on the body or u can tap into a brown wire. Brown wires are usually ground at least in the benz. You can buy a fusetap from autozone or pep boys.

how bout you grab a multimeter and test some wires instead of just using a rule of thumb for a ground wire...

I took the easy way out and had a high dollar sound dealer do the V1 hardwire. I think they tied into a circuit behind the dash for power. It was only 50 bux USD.

50 bucks aint bad... I hardwired an escort 8500 in a passat to the overhead dome light, looked something similar to your V1 install but with no running of wires. Customer was very happy for the 20 bucks he got charged... slipped me an extra 20 on top of it, lol

50 bucks ain't bad at all... I called up RBTech, and they're charging me $70-75. I still have no clue whether to do it myself or take it somewhere (and as for that I still don't know where).

4 wheeled car.
What I did in my W210 and W124 is tap it in the glovebox light. Simple.

anyone know where i can pick up a Direct Wire Cord (for an escort 8500 x50)? i'm looking to pick one up at a retail store instead of ordering it online.

can i use a phone cord?

i've tried to find a straight cord with a cigarette lighter adapter for the escort x50 but to no avail.

after some more searching on other forums, here are detailed instructions for doing the install:

and it looks like a phone cord will work as well
