W211 COMAND plays DVD discs?

I remember seeing somewhere that the COMAND in 2005 W211 can play DVD discs containing mp3 (I know it can NOT play DVD movies). But mine has yet to recognize any DVD I've burned. Have tried DVD-R and DVD-RW. It does play CD-R just fine.

Can anybody suggest a brand of disc which will work in the COMAND?

Thanks.

Does it play cd-r mp3s?

If it does (do you see the cd-mp3 option?), then playing dvd-mp3 is a matter of burning it correctly as it can be picky. I posted how I did it once (search slk marvel on this forum), but basically I used nero and checked an option box to force dvd-video compatibilty for xbox and it did the trick.

Nope, it won't. The US commands have CD players in them. The Euro commands have DVD players in them. It has nothing to do with burning them correctly. If the command does not have a DVD player, then it ain't going to read a DVD no matter how you burn it.

The later COMANDs do have a DVD-ROM drive in them, it all depends... there are so many versions of hardware out there that we can't update the document to cover them all.

For COMANDs with a DVD player, it is very important to burn the disc properly. This really has been covered at length... basically if you use a product that is intended to burn "MP3 discs" and not just data discs, you will be fine (the key is Joliet file system extensions).

Well.

I have an '05 E55 and tried a few methods to burn a DVD from itunes. Burning the DVD with mp3's selected in the advanced option, did not allow a read of the burned mp3's. Burning the DVD with "data" selected in advances options, did work. I have 137 songs in one folder that are all readable (title and artist displayed). Search is a bit screwy and varies between steering wheel and head unit arrows. I feel certain that the method to create "folders" is to create playlists that will be, in turn, read as "folders."

Still asembling the lists. Seems with search and track changing being slow, smaller folders is i order.

In the alternative, the different extension/burnig software may solve the search issues I have found.

Thank you very much

I have an early production 05 (delivered August 04), and it plays mp3s from DVDs. I burn them using Nero and the setting that works is to burn a data disc. Each album appears in its own folder and songs are selectable from both Comand and steering wheel controls. If you are burning a DVD off your music from iTunes, you'll need to convert anything that is in Apple format to mp3. Although I am considering the new iPod integration kit, having up to 4GB on a DVD is a pretty good solution.

My W211 is the last of the 2005 so it should have DVD drive. When you guys insert DVD, does the screen display the DVD logo in addition to CompactDisc logo? My displays only the CompactDisc logo which makes me wonder if it really has a DVD drive.

I will try some different software (Nero didn't work for me).

Thanks for all the helps.

I notice that the steering wheel and Head unit up and down arrows scroll at different rates, with the steering wheel being faster. In addition, the Head unit's arrows don't show the track changes on the instrument display as I am scrolling. Cleraly all tracks had been mp3 format before DVD burning. Similar behavior?

Thank you very much

The screen display shows the com[act disc logo when inserting a DVD that can be recognized.

Thank you very much

No, I have not noticed this behavior. But I had not looked for it either. When I get back into the car, I'll check.

For lucky people in NY they have a shop you can go to.

these are pictures they took of my car
Let me get this straight.

You sent them your unit, got it back in two days, then put it in, then they came to you and took pics?

so...did they add audio and video inputs to the comand unit OR did they activate the TV button and send you a separate video adapter/TV tuner?

Why did you write that "they" took pictures of your car then? Were you just messing with us?
