C350 Engine Sound
650 miles so far on my 2012 C350 Coupe. Picked it up 2 weeks ago.
1) I am driving the car easy but still sometimes when parking I can detect a burning smell that you'd expect a new car to have. Question is, should it still smell after almost 700 miles?
2) car runs great, yet engine sounds a little rough, especially with the hood open. Almost, like a ticking noise, my 2009 C300 doesn't sound this way. Is this normal on the 2012's?

I have 4800 miles on my C350 Coupe and also hear the tapping noise. Sounds like when older engines don't have enough oil. But, I guess this is normal for a Direct Injection.
My 2009 C300 with the 3.0 six is quiet as can be!

Yes, it's the tell tail sound of the Mercedes new DI engine. There are crankcase breather valves that clatter as they operate, plus the super high pressure fuel rail/injectors and pump make noise as they operate.
I did notice the same with the rather *roughness* of this new engine. Gone are the smooth days of the old engine, in with rough and tough idle of a high lift cam.... plus the exhaust note does leave a rather hole in your ear.
As far as the smell goes, I would have that checked. All the assembly glues and waxes should have been burned off by now.

Well, I am at 1,000 miles and still have a smell when I beat the crap out of it. I wouldn't worry too much about anything. But it is free to bring it in for peace of mind.
The other sounds are normal for direct injection. I got used to it on my G37. It almost sounds like an old tired engine - kind of annoying, but normal.

Chose to get the C Coupe because of the deal I got, and I'm not too fond of the G37 interior (although I've never sat inside one in person, basing on pictures alone).
I do missing driving a manual transmission a lot though.

There should be tweaks and improvements to these engines in the next few years.
