Talking So it has begun..... C250 CDI Project

Hi All,

Long time reader though didnt feel it was "right" until I just recently aquired my new C250 CDI before I contribute.

Specs are as follows:
- C250 CDI (Diesel)
- Diamond white
- Vision Pack (Pano roof, Harmon Kardon, Xenons)
- AMG PACK

Future mods:
- Paint out gloss black: Front grill and lower front bar lip.
- Carbon fibre front lip (See Tigeroud thread, pic attached).
- Rear carbon fibre C63 quad exhaust diffuser. Pic attached.
- Quad exhaust (when one eventually comes out for the CDI).
- Carbon fibre boot lip spoiler.
- KW V1 coilover suspension (when released for our cars).
- Wheels: ADV10DC in custom bronze colour (also consideringDPE). Pics attached.
- Carbon firbe interior.
- Tune/flash (when released for CDI).
- AMG door pins!!!! to replace the ugliest cheapest door pins ive ever seen!!!!!
- And whatever comes along the way!

Im looking to get the above done as quick as I can, though guess half of the things mentioned above arent even released considering how "new" our car is to the market.

I had no choice with options with this car as I didnt want to wait to build one so this is the closest specd MERC found for me that was brand new. All my past cars had the keyless go and im finding it quite annoying that it doesnt have this option!! It was either this or wait 4-6 months to build!

I'll document my build on here when I do aquire the parts (or when they get finally released).

Picture of my car at the show room attached. Have to say Mercedes has a lot to learn about handing over a car. It was pretty dismal and disappointing!

Hope you guys enjoy! Any help and comments appreciated.

P.S. My first MERC (Came from BMW and Audi) so forgive my ignorance should I be way off the mark with somet things.

Hi Blinks. Evolve-Technik in Box Hill already do reflashes. I think I was quoted for just over $1k for my 250 CDI but didn't end up pulling the trigger. From memory it was a extra 15kw and 50nm bump. I imagine it'll change the torque/power curves too (hopefully more sooner) but I was never able to get my hands on any graphs

Sounds great Blinks I'll keep an eager eye on this one seeing we're both locals and our vehicles are almost identicle

I too have alot of similar mods planned (already done a few minor ones) main priority is keeping it all neat, love the choice of ADV.1 wheels, I too am keen on a set of those but a different model to the ones you've selected

Couple of things I'd suggest, since you already have the AMG package, if your going to change the suspension then go for the new KW DDC Ecu magnetic adjustable coliovers otherwise IMHO your going backwards swapping out the MB suspension with only ride height adjustable coil overs.

Also I'd only opt for a tuning box, not a remap on our diesels, they deliver alot more power output than the remap and are totally untraceable and removable anytime with little effort and alot cheaper than a remap too.

Pity though you couldn't wait and get all the goodies with a custom order, I certainly can't live without my fully optioned set up

I look forward to seeing the finished thing in the flesh

DFA176: I'm quite familiar with evolve in boxhill though I didnt see our car listed on their site. Did they tell you who does their flashes? as in what brand?

Where abouts are you from and mind sharing specs of you car? Glad to have another Melbournian on board!

AV1: I also want my car with to have the clean look. Atm struggling to find some decent rims considering how bad the offset is. Offset will barely give any concave or dish unless you are looking to modify the guards (which im not).

In regards to the KW's, do you know if they are available yet? I cant seem to find any info. All I know is that i had the V1's on my last car and they were perfect for what i needed the car to do.

In regards to the ecu, I dont mind either flash or piggyback but atm not much choice in the market so just weighing up the options. Is there a piggyback unit for our cars available?

I can live without the side assist etc though coming from a car with keyless go now to not having it is more annoying than i thought it would be! If i did it all again that would be one of the first options I would tick! I had no options, due to tax purposes I had to have the car before EOFY.

The KW DDC's are definitely available soon - saw another thread on the topic which confirmed that, they are already available for most BMW models as well

Look into more (direct contact with KW) as they will give you height adjustment and 3 ride quality settings - that'll at least maintain some of the benefits of the OEM dynamic magnetic dampers we have on our AMG packaged C Class Coupes.

Most 'piggyback' diesel pack manufacturers have a system for our 2012 C250-CDI Blue efficiency engines ready to go - power /torque increases range from 15-25% according to their literature, have only seen 1 or 2 dyno graphs to verify it, but read alot of satisfied reviews, so they seem to deliver.

I know some chaps from another brand forum I'm also a member of who have various oilers and all are more than happy with the diesel boxes they're running on those

Understandable regarding your purchase timing, mines the 1st I've owned with keyless entry and go and I'm loving it, it's annoying to have to go to one of my other cars without it LOL so I feel your pain

Albeit the DDC's being a beautiful peice of equipment they will be overkill for what I want to acheive out of my car. My car wont come within a mile of a track, so based on my experience with the V1's, its gives me the adjustibility of stance/height and perfect median between tightness and comfort level for my daily driving and occasional spirited squirt.

Regarding the piggabacks systems, do you have some brands that i can look up or point me in the right direction. I already feel the lack of power after having the car for only one week.

Once again today running to my car and having to get the key out to unlock the car whilst it was pouring rain!!! I want my keyless back!!! If only I could retrofit it in!

LOL would be a major task DIY retrofitting the whole comfort access package

With regards to the diesel tuning boxes from what I've seen they're all over the web, just google diesel tuning boxes and dozens of choices will come up for our Mercs

I too am starting to get used to the power, but every now and then when I get the throttle action just right it astounds me how powerful this thing is, with an added 25% torque it'll rip your face off

The car definately need more power. I have to compensate for the fact that I chose this car over a 35 GTR! lol Looking into these tuning boxes and reflashes.

I also love that particular car but your never going to get anywhere near a R35 GTR lol not even with a C63, in fact not even a C63 black comes close to the new GTR's performance !!!

But IMO you'll have a much more power satifying drive on your C250-CDI with a tuning box on the as most give a torque output of no less than 560nm all the way up to over 640nm depending on the tuning box itself and power will be the better part of 200kw - that's more than decent for a 2.1ltr IL4 pot oiler

I eventually plan on getting one for mine, but I want to cover more travelled km's first, make sure it's properly loosened up as diesel engines take a while in that regard, they're made to last a long time

Im planning to keep this car for two years hence why I want to mod it fairly quick so I can enjoy the fruits of my labour lol Then on to the 35 GTR.

Let me know what diesel tune box you got with as I will most likely do the same.

I actually plan on keeping my C250-CDI long term as an everyday ride, that's why I'm been very careful with any mods, I don't want to spoil it in any way MB have done a super job with this vehicle it's hard to replace anything without going backwards in one way or another.

I've got a few other weekend and past time driven modified vehicles which satisfy that urge anyway

I look forward to you getting an R35, I'll definitely want to ride shot gun in one of those

It is frustrating, but given time alot more aftermarket items will flow through, it's still too new that's normally the case with Euro cars, you'll see so much out there in terms of tuning and modding for Euro models that are over 10 years old, compared to more recent releases, but if your keeping your for only a couple of years I can understand wanting to get it all done quickly

The more time that passes with mine, the more I'm getting used to it and not wanting to change things as it all works and looks pretty spot on as is, externally I've only fitted the rear boot lip spoiler and that's made it look totally complete body wise, would still like to get a neat quad and matching diffuser happening we'll see how we go with the release of more modding parts down the track.

Group buy could possibly save on shipping aswell.

Chip Express have great claims

Hi Blinks,
I have been looking at chipping my c250 CDI Coupe and found Chip Express
http://www.chipexpress.com/products/1237/
I posted the link for you. I would like to hear from anyone who has done this to see if the claimed gains are for real. Cause if they are then its value.

There are lots and lots of diesel tuning boxes around, not just the one listed above I too am interested in hearing from anyone here who's tried one on our cars

There are also lots and lots of reviews and testimonials from those sites which sell them, but it's always better hearing a first hand review from a reliable source, sellers can always right up whatever they want.

I do know of other people on another car brand forum who've tried diesel tuning boxes on their cars and they all seem to support a very noticeable power and torque increase, however none have ever done a before or after dyno session to verify actual numbers gained, they also report a marked increase in exhaust soot when pushing hard and engine oil leaks which is not good.

Not sure if it would represent the same problems on our MB's blue efficiency diesel engines or not, I certainly havn't noticed any black smoke or soot coming out of my exhaust at all, certainly wouldn't want a tuning box to change that

Hey, new member here, so a big hello!

AV1, today I installed a Spider tuning box http://www.dieseltuning.co.uk/.

Takes less than 20 minutes to fit, and quite impressed after couple test drives.

I chose this box after a friend of mine at work mentioned he had one, they have been around for a long time and know what they are doing - wanted to choose a company with a good reputation.. costs a bit but worth it.

Significant and noticeable boost in power and performance pins you in the seat as the car surges forward.... VERY smooth, linear delivery.

They claim 272 BHP / 620NM which are good numbers. You can open the box and change the RPM and Power settings by turning 2 dials.. I have it set on 'enhanced power' mode that should be providing the above power increases.

Only done approx 5 miles so far, off out later for a longer drive to let it adjust to my driving style.. some clever technology built it to enhance power, and MPG.

Thought I'd give you a little insight from my experiences so far.

Adam

Yes keep us all up to date on those two items. I went for colour coded boot spoiler because it looks good and was relatively in expensive. Came painted too and was easy to install. Couldn't really find a good carbon fibre genuine one that didn't cost in excess of $2K.

That front lip looks unreal! Toughens the car up a lot. Quite interested. Wouldn't want to scratch it though!
