A question re: Wheel size and offset for the Coupe

Hi all!

I've tried the search engine, but haven't had success in finding exactly what I was looking for.

I'm going to be hunting for a winter tire and wheel package. MB offers one, but it's not exactly inexpensive at a little over 3 grand and I'd like to consider options before pulling the trigger.

I've got a 2013 C350 Coupe 4Matic with the sports package. I understand that in 2012, the MB offered winter wheel and tire package was 17", 112/5 bolts, 17 x 7.5" rims, with a 47mm offset all around. Can someone confirm that?

I'll probably be adding either the Blizzak LM 60's, or Conti extreme winters, in 225/45/17 size.

On the wheel size, I understand that the offset can really affect the handling and balance of the car. Can anyone give me some advice as to what range I stick to with a 17" size all around?

What I'm most concerned about is that I develop some sort of balance issue if I go with the wrong rims, so I really appreciate any advice you can offer. I've been considering just springing for MB OEM package, since I know they will fit correctly, but I thought I'd ask here first.

Thanks!

JP

Offsets in the mid to high 40s will work with 17x7.5 rims. A few millimeters one way or the other will not create any balance issue...just a slight change in how much the wheel is tucked in or pokes out of the wheel opening, but we are talking millimeters here, so not a real concern if within the range. Contact Tire Rack and they can set you up. Call and ask for Luke, who is a sponsor here and very familiar with our cars. I found winter wheels from them for $99/wheel (USD). I would suggest you reconsider the tire. Blizzak are outstanding, but not the LM....the WS70. LM is an attempt to combine winter and high performance and wind up being the best of neither. WS is a true winter tire designed to offer traction as if it were studded, although its not. Also, look for 215/50-17 tires for better winter performance from the smaller contact patch cutting through the snow.

Smaller patch does make sense. Thanks for the info. I appreciate it.

You're more than welcome. We had a wonderful time with friendly people when we Michiganders were out in Calgary for the Stampede and stayed in Banff.
