flooded ignition coil packs

I have been a professional detailer for over 25 years. I was gently cleaning (not high pressure or steam) the engine bay of a 2003 C230 compressor coupe and water some how got down into the ignition coil packs and ruined them and thus needing replacement. Is this a common problem, or design flaw or just bad luck? I have never seen or heard of this happening before. any insight to this would be greatly appreciated. the boss says I have to pay for the coil packs and that I should have known better. I have high pressure cleaned hundreds of MB engines and not 1 problem before, this was the 1st C230 compressor engine I've worked on. thanks for any help on this.

The 2003 Coupe would fall under the W203 group. With that being said, I have always covered the coil packs and other electrical items (ie, the alternator, the ecu, etc...) before spraying the engine compartment.

This is very odd.
Pure water should not be an issue, simply dry them off with warm air.
Detailing fluid might damage them.

These units are weather packed (sealed), due to normal operation environmental exposure.
