DIY: Hotwire a radar detector?

I'll be getting my 2017 c300 coupe sometime in August. I'd like to hotwire my V-1. Any DIYs for this?

If possible, I like to wire through the overhead console, run the wire from the console just under the overhead liner and come out by the driver's visor. The V-1 is placed on on my visor (where is nice and high and usually can't be seen from the outside.) An alternative can be to wire into the fuse box which is located on the passenger side wall under the dash and run the wire up the passenger side A pillar, continuing just under the overhead liner, ending at my visor. But, all this will have to wait until someone has a better idea or when I get my car and can see just what can be done.

Can someone check to see if the Homelink transmitter functions when the vehicle is off?
This is how I wired my detector in my 2015 Audi S4.
Worked a champ.
Assuming it's switched power, as it was in the Audi...

I've also gone that route with my Z4.

Now that I have my coupe, it looks as though the edges where I thought to stuff the wire up the A-pillar are too tightly fitted together to allow for stuffing without marring the dash or A-pillar. So, if there is switched power wire in the overhead console, can some one tell me how to get to it? That is, which colored wire and how do you remove the console lid?

I picked up my 2017 C63S coupe and am planning to hardwire my Escort Max 360 tomorrow. Anyone identify an ACC switched fuse on the driver's side fusebox?

If your coupe has essentially the same fuse boxes as my 2017 C300, then this should help you:
You'll find the fuse map at post #4 (Fuse Map?). You can try this first ( FuseMap.pdf ). I used the glove box fuse as it went on/off with the ignition which was located in the driver side dash...at its end. The fuse for the glove box is fuse 216. I've had it working now for 3 weeks and all is OK. Good luck.

Hi. See my post at https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-c...ease-help.html. Unfortunately there is no fuse, just a blank space for 216, glove box light. Any ideas how to find a ACC-switched fused in this driver side fuse box? Alternatively, passenger side footwell? I'm mounting on the windshield just over the dash, not by the rearview mirror. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm currently stuck.

If your glove box light goes on/off with the ignition, I'd still give fuse 216 a try. I'd get a fuse tap (eg, http://www.autozone.com/electrical-a...ies/32416_0_0/), place a 7.5amp fuse (this is the size used in my 216) into the tap and then a 1amp fuse into the tap part that goes to the radar unit. I'd then jury rig up and see if it works. If it works, then finalize the install.

Thanks for your response. The issue is there is no way to plug a fuse into that slot. It appears there is some sort of fuse block or adapter that has to plug into those slots first in order to accept a fuse. See below. Any other advice?

If the glove box light does go on/off with ignition, you could try to get the "fuse holder" that goes in there...then use the fuse tap. If not, you could check for likely ignition dependent fuses onthe rest of the fuse block. Otherwise, that's it for me. Good luck.

My is a very clean setup. I ran the wire through the a pillar and then under the steering wheel well and then to the cigarette lighter connection. I had to remove the waterfall center dash to connect it to the lighter connection; wasn't difficult at all. I did blow a fuse trying to figure out which one is positive because I am color blind, but that was an easy replacement.
