Hi Everyone,
I was in my driveway the other day and noticed my one wheel had serious chipping and cracking in the clear coat. They look like stress cracks to me but it is only on one wheel.
Has anybody seen this before? Car is a 2017 with 36k miles on it.
They guy at my dealership that does all of their paint and rim corrections after they get new vehicles brought in told me to never run a Mercedes through a car wash
The only car wash I've taken it to is a hand wash that specializes in very high end cars (months ago). The dealership is the last place where it was washed a few weeks ago. Also, it's only on one wheel which I thought was interesting. I have to bring my other car for a service this week so I will show my service advisor the pictures when I am there. Someone said to me that it could have been previously repaired poorly. This wouldn't surprise me since my car was a loaner before I leased it.

"Previous repair," that would indeed make sense. Hope it gets corrected for you. I am so OCD over my car, I have a few scuffs on the wheels that the repair guy at my dealership stated that he could easily correct, however, two days ago I scraped a curb while parking and gouged my wheel! I'm so upset over it, I don't think that one can be corrected. 😭

Sorry to revive an old thread but ironically I just noticed this on my ML too. I have an W166 ML63 with the 21” wheels and have never noticed this until today.
I have started driving it a lot more in the winter this year and unfortunately have been taking it through “reputable” washes in the area to rid it of road salt.
It’s on the both driver side wheels - with the front driver having it worse. At first I thought it was curbed by the car wash track but the cracks cannot be felt when you run your fingers across them. I thought it could have been due to stress cracking from me having to drive over some deep rumble sticks, but idk.
I’ll eventually have it repaired but might wait to see what happens with the other wheels.

OP, what did you end up doing?
Hi!
the dealership repaired it for free since I had the wheel and tire package which also covered cosmetic issues. Sorry this might not be of much help to you

That’s good to hear! I’ll probably ask my SA for their vendors contact info that does the refinishing on damaged wheels. Thanks for the response.
