Question Took car in for recall on tensioner and got this news.....

Suggested I get new plugs @ 3.5 hours labor and fuel filter @ 2.5 hours labor.
And.....differential trans connector starting to leak. I usually do my own maintenance but don't you think the labor time is high? Haven't looked but plugs
can't be that bad to change, right?

The trans is a different issue. I will search this as I know I've seen fellow members with trans problems in the W202.

Yeah, I think I will. Time to start purchasing the parts..... Are any of the plugs
in an odd ball location where you need any special tools? W202 V6

Is fuel filter in tank like some cars?

Does the dealer seem like a reputable dealer?

Just a story.

When i was looking at purchasing my 1999 c280. Before doing so i went to get it checked up by the local and large MB dealer in woodbridge, nj. They suggested that i replace the rotors and pads(as they were too low, and within 500 miles the light would come on) i have driven the car 3000 miles so far and the light has yet to come on. I took the car to a second dealer after buying it and they said both were within the acceptable parameters. So all in all the labor time does seem really high. I think they may be taking you for the run for your money.. just my opinion...

btw what happened with the tensioner belt? is everything good?

The tensioner was fine! So, since the car was in the shop, I had them
do a coolant flush. Oh well. Time for a tune up. They also said to replace the
belt which I did when I did the pulley mod last year. I suppose they just go
by the age and mileage without first inspecting.

After closely looking at the invoice, it shows:

IF NECESSARY REPLACE HARMONIC BALANCER PULLEY.

INSPECTED. DOES NOT NEED REPLACEMENT.

So I spent two-hours of leave from work and spent $90 on other service I
might not have needed (only did it since the car was there). Thanks MB.

The spark plugs seem a little high in labor, but the fuel filter seems very high in labor in my opinion. No offense, but the coolant flush would have been the easiest thing for you to do. Regarding ease of doing, the plugs are a little pain in the butt, but sounds like there a few pple on this forum doing it themselves.Good luck. Might want to try to find a good MB independent shop in your area and see what they would charge you.

Just priced the plugs and the cheapest I can find for all twelve is around $105.
Might try and order this weekend.
