It's funny how some people just have to have a big sub box in the trunk.
The stock Bose system with a Blaupunkt HU in my 96 C280 sounded great to me and handled plenty of bass.
I also like the stock system with an Alpine HU in my 93 400E though it doesn't handle the bass as well as the newer C280 does.
I had a sub in my BMW 325 once, and I drive 400 miles distances at least once a month. After 20 minutes listening to that sub my brains were dripping out of my ears.

I've seen way too many cars rattling things loose because of the bass[/quote] - i know what you mean. i had this van was once wherein we installed 2 12"s, the weld on the ceiling bracket came loose. we needed to rip apart the ceiling upholstery to have it welded back in.
