There is a pretty respectable Mercedes mechanic on YouTube that makes videos. He says the transmissions are pretty well-built and nine times out of 10 the problems are with the electronic board valve cover something in the transmission you can rebuild your transmission for under 500 bucks and they're said to not have to have the fluid changed. He says change the fluid in your transmission and should last forever. The plug for the electronics go out has two rings that go bad you also want to replace that it's just a little circle about an inch long I'll try to look him up and get the video for you but he says a lot of people replace these transmissions and they didn't need to. This is the 722.6 transmission in the 1999 c-280 and any other car that uses it. Mercedes used it in a ten year peirod in different models if i remember corectly. His videos are extremely detailed and show you how to do it all if you want to try.

I have a 1998 Mercedes C280 my first one and I'm loving it at 241000 Mi runs beautiful still I was a Cadillac and Lincoln man but I don't ever remember having this many miles at any of them not to put them down though sincerely yours Casper from Chicago
1997 C230 - 119k miles in really good condition. I get compliments on it all the time.
Bought in January 2018 with 111k miles on it & it's got 119k now in March 2019. C230 was running great prior to a week ago. Problem just started with rough idle last week. I will post in another thread regarding this idle craziness.
Have a new engine with 81,000 and 3 year warranty...Runs like a new car...but Radio will not work...no sounds of speakers...power to unit...any suggestions...Wayne
Just picked up a 1999 c280. 82000 miles.
I drive a lot....
Will be interesting to see how this holds up to daily commuting miles at 24 years old.
Showroom condition with no leaks at the moment.
First experience with a Mercedes. I've already fallen in love with the engineering.

1998 C280 217,000 and counting.
Always used Mobil 1 10w30 changed every 5,000 miles.
Major repairs:
-105,000 New Transmission
-115,000 New rear differential
This car ran strong to 250,000 miles. Unfortunately it was totaled when a girl playing on her phone rear ended it. This was one of my favorite cars. Never an issue with the engine. The M112 & M113 are truly a great engine. I still have the M113k variant in the garage.
