newer trunk lid

My car is wrecked in the back and i am getting it fixed next week, it is a 94 C280....
I already told the guy at the body shop to order the newer tinted tailights instead of my old ones, the trunk lid has to be replaced to, and I was wondering if anyone has put one of the newer trunk lids with the crease on the bottom (98 + i think) on an older c class. One person told me that those trunks are remotely operated and aren't easy to install on older c classes. I was just wondering because I have been wanting to update the exterior of my car, and I figured now is the right time to do the back, since i'm replacing it anyway.

Yes, I know people who have done this. You will have to make the opening for the trunk release a little different sized, and fit the lock and related hardware from your old decklid.

the lock and everything on the back of my trunk is totally busted, everything is getting replaced, (the the whole trunk not just the lid,) I'll try and post a pic tomorrow, I was wondering if there would be any price difference, with either the parts or labor, if there isn't then of course I'll do it, if there is then I'll have to wait cuz I'm strapped for cash at the moment.

Isn't insurance going to pay for it?

right, insurance is paying for it, they have already estimated it....If it is a signifigant amount more than what they are giving me I would have to come up with the difference, which, after my countless repairs (taking it in for a $3000 fix everything that's mechanically wrong with the car visit tomorrow) and my $500 deductible, I would have no way of doing.

I have a US trunklid in 744 silver that will be coming off my car in the next few weeks - not sure if that would help your cause any - but I'm sure it'd be cheaper than getting a brand-new one.

I did the trunklid update on my 1993 C250D...if you want to do it the right way, you need an updated (vacuum operated) trunklid lock which involves some electrical rewiring and changing of the (central locking) vacuum system...not something I recommend (although I did it myself anyways).

To make the oldstyle lock fit the newstyle trunklid you need to make the lock hole in the trunk bigger (which I have seen done before as well)...

Luwin...going euro?

greetingz,

hmmmm, maybe I'll just get the same trunk that was on there before, I am looking for newer style taillights though, if anyone knows where I can find a good deal on those.
