Muffler for 98 C230 -- Choices?

After I get my avantgarde grill installed, I was thinking about some xenons or maybe a new muffler. Figure muffler would be a better choice, since I'd get a lil performance boost, as well as some aesthetic and audible appeal.

Anyway, I was doing some research and looking on the web for aftermarket mufflers and well, there isnt much info on any of them. Considering that they average 500 bucks for the part, I'm a lil hesitant, without knowing some more info or getting some testimonials or reviews.

What better place to find that kinda info?

Let me know what you'd recommend! post everything about it if you can, pics, sound clips, etc, etc...

Is there a brand in particular you are looking for? Do you just want the muffler or an entire cat-back system? I hope you don't expect too much power because you're only going to gain about 2 horsepower. Anyone who tells you otherwise needs to go to a Dyno and prove it. I don't care what products say anymore. It's like the morons out there who think they get 15 horsepower with a simple bolt on intake. UNLIKELY!!!

I like the look of this one. I think it would fit the opening nicely. The good thing about it is you can angle the actual muffler up so you just see the tips coming out. If I could do it all over again I would probably go with this style. It looks like good build quality too: Robotic welds, high polished steel, and what have you.

It looks nice, but what a rip off! $590 for a muffler is outrageous. You could get one that looks similar for $100. Didn't you see the price of the one I posted? Is was like $70 after shipping and handling.

all nice pics. just wish i knew how each of these sounded

when i was at the mb shop doing some stuff, one of the techs pulled out a C36 and it had a DEEP DEEP roar when starting up, it was pretty cool... I was thinking "man, I want my car to sound like that!"

I just realized you have the 230 instead of the 280. It may not be as deep as the 2.8 but it is a big enough 4 cylinder engine that is shouldn't be too high pitched. Many of the free flowing exhausts sound similar to each other. I'm not sure what kind of muffler that AMG one is. You can always tone down the sound a bit with an exhaust regulator. I wouldn't worry too much about the sound though. It won't sound like a civic. You're comparing a 1.6 liter engine to a larger 2.3. You should be fine any way you go.

well not by much, like you said.

I dont mind the acceleration on the car, it could be faster. That wasnt the reason why I purchased the car tho
