kompressor, c230
Spark plugs, gap, missing hex screw, etc...

My 2000 C230 Kompressor has 120,000 miles and i am looking to change the spark plugs. My friend gave me some Bosch spark plugs that are three pronged and are already gapped to 0.40. Is this correct because i was reading in the manual it takes 1.00mm gap? if not can anyone give me advice on what to buy or what direction i should go?

secondly, do you know the size of the star socket to remove the spark plugs?

third, i am missing a 5mm hex screw on the spark plug cover. seems the cover takes 3 screws and i am missing one.

any responses would be greatly appreciated.

you don't touch the gap on multi pronged / platinum plugs. Typically, factory style plugs are pregappeed.

as for the size, unsure- make sure the plugs you have are in fact the ones for your engine and get whatever socket fits those.

5MM allen socket is typical all over the car, don't worry if one is missing, no big deal. Get another one from hardware store.

The correct spark plug for the 2000 C230 Kompressor is the Bosch F 7 KTCR and is factory set at 1.0mm (0.039").

I doubt that the tools your are using measure spark plug gap to 0.001"...

Either way, the gap you are measuring now is not important, the actual gap of the three pronged spark plug is set via. torque when the plugs are installed. Therefore it is important to use a torque wrench and torque to 20 - 30 Nm (15 - 22 ft.lb).

The other reply is correct, no special fastener is required, but if you want it to match the factory style you either have to 1) go to the dealership or 2) find a C230 in the scrap yard and negotiate for the fastener. My guess is that you will have to buy the cover and the three fasteners from a yard... but that may still be cheaper than buying a new fastener from the dealer.

Hope that helps.
