how to replace aspirator behind dome light near rear view mirror
97 C230 MB.
The aspirator fan is noisy. This fan is inside assembly in front of the rear view mirror behind the dome light (and moon roof switch lever).
I can pop the dome light plastic cover off. But unable to remove the dome light assembly to get to the aspirator assembly. Can you please tell me how to find the drawing and instructions on how to remove/replace this aspirator?
Dealer told me this aspirator fan is to draw air for temperature sensing for automatic control of air-conditioning. Can I just disconnect this aspirator assembly and not use auto temperature control of A/C?

I understand if I disconnect this, only the air conditioning will not work on "auto" temperature control? But A/C will still blow cool air, when turn on?

hope you get a reply on this one as I have the same problem. I have a zzzzzz sound constantly in the car, and thought it was coming from deep within the dashboard. Today I decided to try to localize the sound, and found it is coming from the light fixture - just like yours. Let's try to solve this as it is annoying !

The guy i bought my car from before had put a piece of tape in the vents to stop the zzzzzing. Not sure what that would do. I know my AC doesnt work tho. Would that cause it? What a dumb ***.

The procedure is outlined here.
Let me know how you get on with it.
I will have to do mine as well.
I am not sure what the part number to order is however.
If you find out what part number it is, please post it up here or PM me
thanks

Mine was howling pretty bad. I removed the unit, and the plastic cover ofer the impeller. The impeller was packed with dust. I held the impeller from spinning, and used medium (40 psi) pressure compressed air to remove the dust. I cleaned the four springs which suspend the blower to lessen the chance of vibration. Seems to have fixed the noise for now.

The video above for the moon roof motor, although it does explain how to get to the aspirator
