engine vibrates in Drive

1997 c class

engine vibrates in Drive

When i start my car form cold it vibrates when i engage in Drive (Automatic transmission). It takes a while to engage second gear. When i step on it,it raves up and doesnt engage second gear.

I guess its time to change the engine mounts.

Yeah, sounds like engine mounts. If Check engine light is on maybe a tune-up.

My 99 C230K started running rough in drive, but smooth in all other gears. I will try and clean the MAF sensor first and see if that's the culprit. If not, plug change is next. If none of the above works, I will buy a new sensor.

Curious as to why engine mounts may be the answer. I have the same problem when I am at a stop sign for example. In drive, it vibrates, but as soon as I accelerate from the stop, it's fine, and shifts perfectly.
Mounts seem fairly inexpensive. I was thinking it may be the idle speed?

I totally agree. It would be apparent that if the mounts were bad, the engine would vibrate in ALL gears, not just in Drive.

Trans mount. Try that first. It's a DIY.

Do the trans mount, motor mounts. Go with Lemfoerder for engine mounts, I don't know who makes a trans mount but just go with MB. It's not a bad replacement on the 202. Just get a breaker bar. And there's a video on youtube for engine mounts.
