What kind of battery should I use?

I still have the original battery in my car since I purchased the car in 1995. Lately, I have noticed that the car doesn't start as readily as it used to do so. Therefore, I'm thinking it's probably about time to replace the battery. What kind of battery should I use in the car and where can I get a good price for one?

Thanks.

Interstate batteries are the best, period. You can get them at pretty much any local auto parts store. I have one in my 95 C280 and I had one in my 93 MAXIMA SE and both batteries have served me extremely well.

Hi, thanks very much for your reply. Have you or anyone else had experience with Autocraft or Nascar batteries? Advance Auto Parts has a three year replacement warranty on the Autocraft battery. Another store has a Nascar battery available for my car. Any comments on these brands?

Thanks,
Usman

I was looking at the Interstate for my 1999 C280. I am quoted a cost of $120-$140 for it. Sam's Club has Champion batteries, made by Exide. Specs are the same, yet the Champion battery is $59 installed. I may try one of these, anyone have any experience with them?

Here is a link to Exide's Champion site:

Interstates may be expensive, but they're weel worth the money.

i got die hard installed at the sears near by cause my car wouldnt start at the mall so i was able to barely get it to sears.

people say die hard....well they call them die hard for a reason... im not exactly "with it" in the battery department. what is like the exotic of all batteries??

The fact that you are still on the original batttery from 95 tells me a lot. i would go with the dealer part or try your local independent MB shop for a better price. I would try to stay original with as much as you can.

A lot of different brands are made by the same companies. The specs will be the same but prices will vary. If you plan to keep the car a long time, go with the best warranty. If you want to shed some weight, get one of the sealed "dry" or "gel" batteries like Optima. It could save 20lbs.

Good point. Most batteries don't have a useful life beyond 4-5 years even thoght they are guaranteed for more. Getting 8 is increadible! Check the warranty to see howmuch cred you'll get in the latter years. Sometimes it is pennies.
