Question '95 C220 Lowering springs

HELP !
I have a 1995 C220 and have just added 17" Monoloc wheels and would like to lower the car. My question is does anybody have any experience with replacing springs on this car. I would like to get the "lowered look" but don't want to end up with a harsh ride. (This is actually my wife's car !) Is there any spring out there that has the same rate but is shorter? ..do I HAVE to change out the shocks if lowering the car only 1" - 1 1/2 " ?..ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

i got h&r's with bilstein shocks, and 18 in wheels..I expected my car to be very rough from the stories that i heard..but the car rides smoothly with no problem, even at high speeds at 80mph it will stay smooth, of course it will bounce a little but its not harsh...and i had 3 people in my car after driving over speed bumps and i do not rub, nor scratch my car from bottom

and yes, you will have to change the shocks..they dont last very long with preformance springs, so its best to change them too, it will cost less doing it all at once

I got a 95 220 as well with 17"in AMG mono,
I dropped my car with H&R springs with #1 pads in the front and #2 pads in the rear. I am amazed at how smooth the car still is, it is still a slighty harsher ride but its worth the tradeoff in terms of looks.
As for shocks I havent done them yet but I haven't had any problems with my car since I lowered it a year ago, Im sure it is a better idea to do the shocks but if your short on $$$$ do the springs first then do the shocks later.
Also, make sure you get alignment after you lower or youll mess ur tires up.

Thanks for the reply, What are #1 and #2 pads ?????????
How much did the H&R springs drop your car? You say the ride is not too bad? Is this something (spring install) that you can do yourself? New to working on MB - This is my wifes car & I dont want to make it too harsh for her. She HATES my '93 911 RS America.. (Full Porsche "Supercup" susp)...So when I start talking about springs and such, she gets kina' wigged. Considering selling the truck ( hey i'm in South Texas) and getting a 2003 C32 as a driver.

Spring pads are rubber shims that vary from 5mm to approx 20mm, I could be wrong about the exact measurements for each pad but #1 pads = 5mm 2=8mm and so on.
the H&Rs claim to drop my car 1.3in in the front and 1.5in rear, but i swear with the pads it dropped almost two inches (Less than 1 finger gap in fr.and rear.
As for installing springs yourself, i heard you need a specific MB spring compresor but not sure, if I were you I would just pay a professional to install why take chances.
oh yah, sell thruck and get that C32.

send me and email and i can send u some pics

Thanks..New to MB.......Still HARDCORE Porsche guy, However when they came out with the 996 series 911, (1999) they became almost like a (high end) jap car....If I dont get the C32 I will keep the truck, up the antee and get a "Speed Yellow" '97 Twin Turbo 911 (go out at night and look for Vipers to embarass)

Ya' Think ???? A 1997 911 TT with the FACTORY "powerkit" opton: K27's, big intercooler, "S" ECU is putting out about 450 HP !! (this is the same option as the 911 TT "S" model)***0-60 IN 3.8 (Road and Track) PLUS Vipers are Junk and have horrible resale. Belive me, I know all about vipers, I am from Houston and have seen and driven more Vipers than I can remember. (Hennesey is in H-Town) The 911 Porsche has the best resale of **ANY** car in history.

PORSCHE...There is no substitute.

I have to agree...I used to restore 911 model years 1983 - 1990 and no matter the miles or depth of restoration I always got top dollar. people will always pay for the best and the original sports car.

For price, dependability, handeling, performance, and female attraction PORSCHE 911 RULES!!!

Here 'ya go......1997 911 TT "S"
There is a '96 Euro TT for sale near Seattle, with the black factory carbon fiber backed sportseats that I'm looking hard at. As crazy as it sounds, I almost would go for the C32. I have owned similar Porsches, and they can be a real pain in the neck, very conspicuous..Ya cant park ANYWHERE with out worrying about it.
