Phone sound at startup
Does anyone know how to disconnect the phone from making noise when you start the car. Every time I start the engine it makes this annoying sound that I cant figure out how to disconnect. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for responding. I know that might work, but I want the phone totally disconnected. I dont want that piece of garbage in there. I have already unpluged the phone from inside the armrest and still makes noise at startup. Any answers?

IMHO, the telephone sound when starting seems like a cool effect. A friend of mine has a 2000 C230K, and it makes that noise--I always say I wish my 95 made the noise. I don't know mayber it would get annoying after a while. Ah well....

I just think that it sounds annoying and stupid because it is serving no purpose. I really want to get rid of it. Does anyone know if there is a fuse that can be pulled for it? Thanks!

If you pull the fuse, you'll take out a few other things. I believe that the sound comes from the speaker on the right side of the front passenger's footwell. Just disable the speaker as it has nothing to do with the radio audio system, just tele-aid. I think that the purpose of the sound is a self-diag test of the tele-aid system that lets you know it is functioning.

Thanks JAM, I appreciate the help. I did a search in the W202 forum like scorchie insisted and nothing came up. But in any case, thanks scorchie for the useless criticism, that really helped me out a lot!

If you think it's useless to try and listen when someone is offering help, then that's fine... enjoy your car.
Anyhow, to solve your problem, you need to remove the lining in your trunk. On the right side. Then disconnect the phone modules there. There are two lines going to it, unplug the fibre optic line to take it out of the loop, and the other is a power/mic/speaker connector, held in by two thumb screws. Remove that as well.

(I am beginning to like the upgraded VBB with IGNORE function... although the database seems to be taking a hit every now and then...)

"Help" with a condesending tone is uncalled for. A "request for civility" was posted in the W203 forum... I hope we don't need that here as well. Ah well.
