Question how to replace window switches

I have just purchased a new cluster for the windows and other functions that reside around the gear lever. Before i install it I need someone to give me some step-by step instructions on how to do it becuase i can't afford to break the wood or any other parts as i am broke as hell!! The car is a 97 c230 thank you very much for any help

This is fairly simple if you take your time.

1) the black gate around the shift knob. Take a thin screw driver and carefully wiggle it underneath the black trim. Pry up on it gently and it will pop up.

2) After you get that off, take the screw driver and stick it in the edge around the side of the entire wood panel...and pry up gently.

3) There ya go...pop it up and your good to go. Just unplug the wires underneath and u'r all set.

at the bottom of the knob right where the knob meets the shaft there is a switch you have to twist. once you got that twisted, the knob will just pull off

I do not believe you have to remove the shift knob...the hole in the middle should be big enough just to lift it right up with the knob in the middle.
