need guidance with alternator replacement

I am a little scared from some of the info I have read and have been told.
1, do I disconnect the battery and if so what is the sequence for disconnecting.
2, can I use a regular socket to remove the bolts or do I need to buy a special tool.
Out side of those questions I believe I can do it with out assistance.

yeah, last week on my way home at night my battery light came on and about 20 mins. later my cars head lights became dim and then the car slowed way down to about 5 miles an hour (safe mode im guessing) and my instrument cluster started lighting up so I pulled over and called road side assistance for a tow. the battery is not even a year old so that is why I feel it might be the alternator

I was told that with certain altinators the voltage regarding could be replaced if bad but unfortunately when removing the wires one connection was brittle on the alt. And the post broke off so looks like I will be buying a new one.

I think so. And thanks a lot for replying. As you have probably noticed you have been the only one to respond. I am starting to think that this blog is for the ones that think their car is the best out there or they believe that something as simple as a alt. replacement is beneath them, so thank you brother.

Most Welcome & of course 1000000% agree with you..

As you know; you don't have to stick with your stock one, there are many choices:-

90A>110A>>115A>>>120A>>>>...

I figured, I have already priced a Valero alt. from a local parts store so I am probably gonna get the same to replace. My questions now are about the battery and how to loosen the tension pulley so I can remove and replace the belt as well along with removing the alt. My worries is I started this last evening and have removed the ground lead off the battery for over 14 hour now and am working on a budget so I don't want to go to a dealer and have them reprogram the ecm For big money. I love this car and I don't want to mess it up either. So if you have any info on what I should do or not do it would be a big help.

*What ever the parts you will change, definitely; No need to reprogram any of ECU/ECM/HFM..
