Help Please, Need Advice!
I just hit 100,000 on my C220.
Now the bills for repairs seem to be growing exponetialy with the age of this car. If I look at my repair bills since 1999, I think I have already spent at least 1,000 per year of maintenace and repairs.
Everything from a fried AC compressor, to a new electrical harness replacements in the last 4 years, well more than 5,000 in repairs so far. I have heard this car does not age well.
So, should I bite the bullet and sell the car. I am somewhat disapointed with this cars repair history so far, and am thinking its time to go. I shudder to think the transmition is next to go!
Thanks.

That's not too bad...I've spent over $8,000 in the past 2.5 years in repairs after the 100k mark. I'm at 138k now and for the most part, everything is peachy.
Lets see so far after 100k:
headgasket
front lower control arms
lower control arm bushings
steering shock
center link
EGR valve
HFM fuel controller
120k major service (pretty penny)
pads and rotors (normal stuff)
As of right now, three repairs that can wait because they're starting to wear out:
engine motor mounts
driveshaft coupler
front right ball joint
rear right knuckle plate
Front end is starting to squeek sometimes now...thinking it's the shocks (haven't been replaced before).
Doing the driveshaft coupler soon ($225), regular 135k service (~$100) and checking the brakes (hopefully not too bad).
Yeah, after 100k, repairs get more expensive :sigh:
But in the end, it makes you happy and love your car even more

I think you all have what is called a lemon. I don't ever do anything to my car. Regular scheduled service and that's about it except for the occasional repair bill after cleaning the engine.

yea, just doing oil changes now and tune-ups when needed. Other than that, the small repairs like the ones listed there. I go to a independent dealer now, so it's cheaper for stuff like this

But I love the car so much...I like the w202 styling (call me old fashioned i guess :p)...now if i can have the technology and power as the w203 in the w202, then hellz yea i would get another one. I guess closest is MY2000 C230 or C280

It's gonna cost a lot of money to drive pretty much any car over 100K. You would be looking at the same kind of repairs if you drove a Chevy with 100K. When cars get old, they need parts replaced. It just so happens that Benz's, hell foreign cars in general, cost more to repair than other cars. This is life. I just dumped $550 on new shocks. What you have to do is evaluate what's broken, what's been fixed, and how much it's gonna cost to fix what's broken and weigh that against the cost of buying/leasing a new car.
