hi pal after changing the coolant sensor, i traced the wire back and it goes into a tapped loom that seams to end at the ecu, i didnt try to trace any more as its a new ecu and didnt want to risk damage

There are a few variants. What does your sensor look like? 4 pin? 2 pin?
If there is a single pin sensor with a green wire... that will be a direct connection to dash and has nothing to do with engine ecu.

No way! Single pin sensor with green wire goes via x26/25 next to abs pump at lf fender and into body harness straight to cluster. There will be another sensor with a green/red and a brown/white that goes to engine ecu.

yep 2 sensors wires run into conduit to bottom of inlet manifold then go with what looks like tapped wires that come from the coil packs ,after removing washer bottle they all seam to end there, but didnt look passed there after paying for the ecu ££££s

Just ground the single pin green wire at the front of cyl head. With ign on the temp gauge should rise to max
