Take Off That Intake Resonator!
i didnt realize that my car had an intake resonator.. it was hidden under the valve cover back by the intake manifold. i took it off and covered the little hole with a couple layers of duct tape (that should hold for now). the car sounds MEAN. only thing that i noticed that is weird is that around 2000rpm, the car sounds like its underwater because it produces this bubbling effect while accelerating.
before anyone goes ape-crazy, let me clear this up: i did not do this mod to improve performance. whether or not it helps performance, it is all relative to the driver. i think it helps, but thats me.

anyone know what a resonator is supposed to do? resonate? but i mean what si the acutal function of this thing i wonder.
ricerockets for life - do you think the bubbling may be harming your car at 2k? (your car is around that range an awful lot, im sure....)

Great picture. Now I know how mine will look in a week with the H&R springs.

sanny: the intake resonators sole purpose is to mellow out sound from the engine while the car is accelerating. im not sure about the bubbling, it sounds cool though... have you ever heard what a big block v8 with straight pipes sounds like? you can hear that put-put-put from the exhaust. basically that noise, but at a much lower modulation, occurs from my intake lol
ashkan: hopefully they sell one of those rubber end-caps that are only an inch or so in diameter. the hole is very small.

but an intake resonator is just like the exhaust silencer, then it should give some performance benefits taking the thing out... it might also improve air feed into the engine= improved performance of about a horsepower, im gonna do that in mine, see if there is a resonator,
thanks ricerockets!

i think the V6 engine is the only one that has a resonator. i know that the I6 engines (pre-facelift) do not have one.
if you have the V6 engine, remove the valve cover and follow the intake pipe to the back of the engine. you'll notice a tube that branches off the main pipe and that little resonator (pics above) will be attached to it. pull the tube off of the main pipe. it just slides on.

98+ c280s uses the v6 engine, as opposed to your inline-6 in your 1997. also, 1998 was the year all W202s got a "facelift", or a mid-model update, like a W202.5 so to speak. basically the changes were mainly aesthetic: new lower bumper attachments to make the car look more aggressive. i think a new electronically controlled tranny replaced the vacuum powered one (?) and some other things...
