Angry Really annoying Horn problem....you're gonna laugh!

So here's the deal......

A "friend" of mine was sitting in the driver's seat of my C280. He was playing with some pennies he had in his hand and somehow managed to drop a penny into the steering wheel. He slid it in between the gap make by the horn button and the actual wheel.

So now, everytime i turn the wheel i have a the most pleseant sound of a rattling penny in my wheel. And what's even better is that sometimes that penny contacts the switch for the horn and causes the horn to go off.

In mid turn my horn starts blaring and i can't get it stop unless i shake the wheel to dislodge the penny from the switch.

so i have 2 possible answers for this and any info on how to do it wold be swell.
1. How do i take the steering wheel apart to get at the penny?
2. How do i dissconnect the horn?

So far I've just taken out the horn fuse. However this also disables my A/C.....which to say the least.....Sucks!

Does anyone have any info on dissconnecting the horn or removing the steering wheel assembly?

Hi,

I think you have to take your airbag out as the horn contact is at the rear of the airbag pad.

Haven't done it myself before but I know it involves removing the negative battery terminal and two torx screw behind the steering wheel to remove the airbag pad. Will check the steps for you if you're keen of doing it yourself as airbags are explosive components.

Sure, any info would be great...However I won't take apart my steering wheel if you think that it could be dangerous ( i don't wanna break my nose or worse for a penny). Unless it's esay and the risk is minimal.

If you or anyone esle has info on temporarily dissconnecting the horn(without removing the fuse) that would be even better.

Turn the car off, remove the key, then remove the airbag using a long T27 bit in a socket with a ratchet. Two screws. After the screws are lose you can pull the airbag forward, if you can get the coin out with disconnecting the wires then do so, otherwise disconnect the wires and look for the coin. Takes 2-3 minutes.

(if you wanted to disconnect the horns, the wires slide onto the horns and are very easy to disconnect under the hood.)
