H&R springs with Koni Yellow Adjustables

here is my suspension set-up:

Model: 2005 Mercedes C230
Springs: H&R Springs cut half a coil in the front (I think half, not sure exactly )
Rear Pad: #4
Shocks: Koni Yellow Adjustables
Wheels: SL500/SL600 - 18x8.5 Fronts 18x9.5 Rear
Tires: Falken 452 - 225/40/18 Fronts 255/35/18 Rear

Front is like 1/3 inch gap and rear is about 3/4 inch gap.

perhaps your statement is true when the damper setting is set to 1 but completely false when it's set to 9.

obviously you haven' t ridden in one set in the softest setting. mine are set to 9 and just slightly stiffer than stock.

Tire rub due to shock problem?

Hey guys,

So I was driving on the freeway when I got some tire rub. Even with the spacers I was getting rub only on the rear left. So I was just looking and my rear left is about a full inch lower than my rear right. I can fit 2 fingers on all 3 (front and rear right) but on the rear left I can barely fit one finger

What will this be from and also will the warranty cover this?

Thanks

P.S Maybe I can add the spacer and have them flushed like before since the right never rubbed

Right now the rears dont have spacers.

Have you done any mods to the rear suspension? Are the correct thickness perch pads in place? - have you replaced shocks recently?

Your problem can be caused by stiction on the back shocks - (tight seals & wipers on the shaft which causes stick/slip motion) This can also be caused by a shock that has failed on the rebound action only & is trying to extend itself.

All this presumes you don't have a soft spring.

I haven't done anything to the rear suspension. It's the sport suspension (MB). When I press the trunk/rear fender down to test the shock it does move/wobble more than the right side.

That's exactly what my setup is except my rear left only is lower. I know the rims didn't cause this because when I got them on I was getting tire rub only rear left. So the Lorinser shop took off the spacers and it was minimal only on high speeds (freeway).

So I checked to see why one side would hit the tire and that's when I noticed it.

Although I have noticed the w203 is a lot stiffer than the w204. Maybe the suspension is too stiff and something goes wrong? So they learned from their mistakes from the w203 and made the w204 softer?

Basically I believe this isn't from the rims. This happened before I put the rims.

Off topic I fit ET38 on the rear of the w203 without spacers with no problems.

WTF i'm going crazy here guys. I was going to ask a coworker who owns a C320 Wagon about my issue and the rear left was FINE. I couldn't believe it, it was perfectly fine. Then once I got home I checked again and it was messed up again.

I dont get it does this mean my shock is messed up. After driving it goes down and after being parked for hours it comes back up???

Anyone hear something like this?

These Benzes have a mind of their own.

Depending on how low you want to go, I'm pretty sure with that setup you'll need at least a 5mm spacer...

springs = coils. when you only do springs the clearance issue is only with the struts, not the spring perch and/or coils on the coilovers.

brakes clearance has nothing to do with how low your car is.

if your just doing H&R springs then you don't have to worry about clearance, you'll be fine with 235/35. If you are still getting the MRR GT1, the +35 should clear your brakes, i believe that's the offset everyone gets with those - you might want to double check with someone who has them though. Are you still getting those?

This might help, but definitely not necessary: I'm not sure what type of sizing MRR does, but a 19x8 instead of 8.5 will make fitment with coilovers and if you need/want spacers a whole lot easier, just my opinion...

If you are going with lowering springs(not coilovers) you wont need spacers unless your wheel does not clear the brake. If you get wheels that are made to clear the brakes(correct offset & face) then you wont need spacers....

thanks again Roland. I'm actually going to make a trip down to the wheel supply and ask them for fitment and stuff. they quoted me 2250 for wheel/tire package, h&r springs, alignment, balance, installation. i think thats pretty good price, but i already ordered my falkens elsewhere

TWS was actually real nice cuz i told them that I could get the springs for 240 online, and they said, "dont bother waiting we can match that price!" so it made me want them to do order them through TWS.

i dont remember if I talked with Albert or some other guy though...
