Smile 80 More Hp for C230 Coupe

Would you Pay 19 k for 80 more hp? Don't get me wrong the c230 is a great car but why not just wait for the AMG version of the 230 which will probably cost about the same amount. I have to admit though 272 hp@5,800RPM and 285 lbs of torque on such a little car with a four banger engine does sound pretty sick. Here is what renntech could do to your car to make it feel like a 6cyl.

2.5L Displacement Increase,Ported and Polished Intake/Exhaust Ports, Hi Performance Cams, Larger Crankshaft Pulley Kit,Hi Performance Exhaust, Larger Intercooler And Piping, Modified Computer,Renntech Air Filters

All this for 19,000 Dollars!

Thumbs down

While the Coupe starts at roughly $26,000, once some options are ordered, the real world out-the-door price is probably closer to $30,000. Add another $19,000 to that and you have one expensive vehicle. Sorry, but the coupe, even modified, just isn't worth 50 large to me.

For that type of money, I'd get a C32 AMG and a warranty. Just my .02 worth.

C230K Coupe/Orion/C4/C5/CD/AMG Spoiler/V60/TeleAid, 2 MGB's
Rumors still surface of an AMG tweaked V6 in the coupe. I had posted a pic of a C320K AMG a while back. Other's said it was "Photoshopped", but it had dual exhaust and big fat tires....I dowloaded from a Euro MBSPY website, so who really knows?

Bring it here under $40k and I'm in. Add AWD and there's no question...make mine Orion!

I think you can achieve 272hp at the motor for less than $2,000 (pulley $350, chip $600, intercooler $1,000). I figure 200hp at the rear wheel with a pulley, renntech claims 20hp more for an intercooler but get Spearco instead, the chip should get you 15hp. That's 235hp at the rear wheel or about 277hp at the motor.

The AMG 3.2 kompressor in the Coupe is available from AMG - as a special (i.e not orderable from your MB dealer as a normal production vehcile)

Hmmm, I wonder what the AMG steering wheel looks like for the C32 coupe.

I'm still debating the Brabus steering wheel myself...

Can you actually order that car for the US, though? Doesn't sound like you can.

I agree with you.

About the warantee... all Mercedes-Benz warantees that become void due to the Renntech work are replaced with a Renntech warantee. Not sure what type of warantee Renntech offers though, but i'm sure it's pretty good.

No AMG special edition has ever been delivered in the US through MBUSA. Maybe someone has brought one in on the grey market.

Don't forget: someone posted the price for the special edition C32 AMG coupe in the UK as 40K UK pounds, which is close to $60K US. Which still makes the AMG C32 sedan a better deal.

Cheers, BT

It does exist

As far as i know the coupe will be available in Europe beginning 2003 as an amg model. I have a few friends in a German dealership who told me most likely it will start at about 55-60 euro's. Whether or not it will be available in North America is beyond me. But even so, for it to be worth the price it would have to be priced under 40 k to be worth the buy over the c32. Price it right and I'm in for the buy!

AMG all the way!

At 3300lb... 230k is small but not exactly light...and 272hp
doesn't sound too impressive for 50k...

true it might not sound impressive compared to what's out there but, remember it's torque that actually gives us the performance and not the hp

YOU GOT IT!
Torque is what throws you back in your seat and HP is what gives you your top-end power. This is why the coupe is so "at home" on the highway. When i cruise at 75 or so I am turning somewhere in the neighboorhood of 3000rpm, right in the middle of the power band. I drove a S2000 the other day on the interstate. at 70MPH in 6th gear if you floor it, it will get you no where. Sure it has 240HP but it only had around 150 torque. if your not turning 7000 rpm then you have no power. You have to shift down into 3rd or 4th to get into passing gear. My Supercharged Z28 had over 450hp and 480torque at the rear wheels. the torque curve wa so flat from 1800rpm to 6000rpm the torque rating didnt change more than 40 ft/lbs. it pulled all the time.

I'd be very curious to know the actual 0-60 stats and the quarter mile times for anyone who actually did the 19 k upgrade. If those numbers were impressive enough someone might actually do the upgrade. Until then. I wouldn't bother
