Rain sensing wipers are annoying!!!

Rain sensing wipers are annoying!!!
Friggin' wipers with rain sensor are really annoying in the intermitent setting. i like to set them so they wipe once in awhile, but these are always on and sometimes they go so fast even when it's just drizzling. anyway to shut it off?

Agreed, The concept sounds nice especially when you tell your friends about standard options on your car. BUt what it actually does is quite annoying. Same thing happened to me.... drizzling and they were going really fast then stop the go then no. WTF already. Anyway there was a previous thread on this and I think the final consensus was that you can take it to the dealer and have them shut it down.

The tech at my dealer wasn't sure if he can set them to NOT PRESENT on the '05's. He'll try to when I take it in for the 1000/3000 mile check-up.

I would recommend that if you are experiencing problems with when your wipers swipe, you should contact your dealer. My wipers used to swipe when the pollen from trees hit the window... bright blue sky... I took it to the dealership and they had to replace the whole sensor. It works fine now and when I don't want them on at all, I just turn them off and they do not swipe.

Problem with wipe frequency?
Mine work fine, sounds like there's a problem with yours. But I think the tree pollen thing is not fixable. Why have your rain sensing wipers on when there's no rain (he says, living in the land of [normally] no rain).

I love my rain sensing wipers... some times they'll just wipe as though they're on even though it's only drizzling, but over all very nice to not have to constantly adjust the setting in varying rain conditions as you go down the road.

If you do not like the rain sensing wiper, then you shouldn't have gottan it. The rain sensing wipers are one option I loved on my benz, and miss it now on my Mazda. When I was driving home from the dealership in my Mazda, I thought the entire time the wipers were changing speed because that is what I was use to in my benz. My passenger had to tell me that I was going nuttes. LOL

Better to have them over-wiping in light rain than under-wiping during a downpour...
I believe they have been "programmed" this way, just like the auto-headlights which are slow to switch off and fast to switch on.

I experienced the same problem with mine. Dealer was unable to locate any codes or any known codes to fix the problem. The sensor works great during steady rain, but has more difficulty determining when to wipe with a light mist. People in Seattle complain about this often. Your only option is to disable the feature or have the sensor replaced, but I doubt a new sensor will help.

Call me old fashioned, but i prefer using this feature manually 
I use rain X but have yet to put it on this car. was hoping to do it prior to my next car wash. anyone on here use Rain X? wonder if it would cause the sensor to wipe less...

Rain X is awesome on the highway. At speed, the water just beads off the window. I barely use my wipers when I have it on. Only downside is it tends to make my wipers squeak when it's just wiping a light mist. Otherwise, it's great! I haven't noticed a difference in the wiping interval with the Rain X on/off.

RainX screws up the auto wiper function. If you use the auto function, stop using RAINX. I have experience in this matter, and that is why your wipers aren't working properly!

With the feature turned off, the first click on the wiper stalk will give you 1 wipe every 5 seconds.

today was a light mist and the intermitent wipers worked great. it just seems that sometimes the rain sensor over reacts in a heavier mist/light rain type weather. i still prefer the once every 5 seconds interval that jim banville referred to. if i need my wipers to go on more often, i'll just put them on the low or high setting.
