1- Because they are usually clueless of such modifications, and
2- because even if they were already aware of the "Netherlands" setting, I'd prefer to keep my panic alarm AND turn on the audible lock confirmation, if what Scorchie says is correct.

well someone needs to write up a step by step to give to the dealer cause they will obviously say it can't be done just like everything else

I second that, can anyone put into writing exactly what we would have to tell the dealer so that they "could" do it, and not screw it up.

Thanks

ggong5150 and ctC230k....I got the dealer to enable my to chirp. at first, the service advisor had to consult with someone. they told me that it can only be done on the E class. then one guy said it can probably done on the instrument panel. i insisted that it has to be changed to the netherland settings and can only be with a laptop. they weren't so sure, but in the end they finally figured it out. thanks again everyone! i love that feature!

Just had mine in for service and they told me that they could not find a USA beep or USA no beep setting, only the netherlands setting, so that is what it is set at.

looks like dealers do not have the "appropriate newer Star Diagnosis software" to do this. No surprise !!!

So they're defaulting to the Netherlands setting.

I'm driving an 06 E350 demo for the week (my ML wasn't ready as promised and I had already sold my old one) and this car has the beep/flash enabled. I was quite surprised by this. Panic button still works as well. Maybe it's something with the 06's or just the E? Who knows, but I like it. Wonder if the ML has it...?

Try the old trick of touching the smartkey to the underside of your chin
and see if it works at extended range (vs direct pointing or coming in
very close). It's night now so I wont experiment. But you're in NYC so
no one will even blink. ;-)
